Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in required, concentration in Industrial Hygiene or Safety or Environmental related technical discipline preferred.
6 months - 2 years minimum applied industrial hygiene work experience.

Proficient in critical thinking, problem solving, communication skills, project management and MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).

Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimal to moderate oversight. / Preferred:

Experience in a pharmaceutical or chemical industry a plus.

Responsibilities:

1.Completes chemical and physical exposure risk assessments, hazard assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, process safety analysis, incident investigations, environmental regulatory field analysis, support for environmental reports and permit applications.
2.Utilizes a variety of industrial hygiene monitoring, sampling and analytical equipment and instruments to evaluate chemical and noise exposures; maintains detailed records of sampling activities.
3.Conducts routine and follow-up industrial hygiene surveys of site facilities and departments; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations.
4.Interacts with departments to correct non-compliance issues, including follow-up on correction actions.
5.Advises employees on occupational health programs related to chemical and physical hazards.
6.Recognize emerging problems and pro-actively develop solutions.
7.May audit implementation of the chemical safety and biosafety program.
8.May perform respiratory fit testing (prefer if already experienced on this, but willing to train).

Communicate trends to leadership. * Identify EHS program and training improvement opportunities. * Develop, execute, and oversee an effective audit strategy to ensure regulatory and corporate EHS program compliance. * Advise the organization of regulatory agency compliance changes and their impact to the EHS program and organization. * Provide subject matter expertise on OSHA record keeping decisions. * Audit record keeping practices and system entries to ensure compliance. * Oversees department-specific IT systems related to EHS, providing project management to third party vendors when necessary. * Deliver on-time and quality projects. * As needed, complete hazard assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, process hazard analysis, life safety reviews, incident investigations, environmental regulatory field analysis, environmental reports and permit applications. Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement: * BS/BA in safety, environmental, ergonomics or a science field required Required Experience and Skills: * Demonstrate strong project management techniques. * Strong incident investigation skills. * Understanding of data analysis tools. * Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving ability * Experience in developing and managing EHS program, training and systems. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders. * Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies. * High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others Preferred Experience and Skills: * 3 + years applied professional EHS work experience preferred. * Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment. * Certified Safety Professional an advantage EHS2018 Your role at Merck is integral to helping the world meet new breakthroughs that affect generations to come, and we're counting on your skills and inventiveness to help make meaningful contributions to global medical advancement.
