What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $89,144 - $115,000. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

In this position you can expect to work on-site five days per week at 101 West Colfax Ave in downtown Denver and on-site at DPR locations throughout the city of Denver.

What You'll Do

Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) provides a broad range of programs, services, facilities, and park amenities within the City and County of Denver. The City's park system encompasses more than 280 urban parks, parkways, and natural areas, totaling over 7,000 acres. The Department boasts more than 14,000 acres of pristine mountain parks, eight golf courses, 24 lakes, more than 87,000 park trees, 187,000 right-of-way trees, over 90 miles of off-street trails, 14 off-leash dog parks, and over 300 athletic fields. The recreation system includes 30 active recreation centers, 16 outdoor pools, and 17 indoor pools and serves approximately 2.25 million visitors annually. The ability to maintain and provide exceptional services to our community is made possible by the diligent oversight and care of the Parks & Recreation Safety Division.

The Parks & Recreation Safety Team is looking to add a Safety & Industrial Hygiene Administrator. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing the faithful execution of occupational safety and health standards regarding the specialized work performed by our department workers. They will develop and implement occupational safety and health policies and procedures for the department in accordance with the City's voluntary compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and Executive Order 65 (Operational Safety and Health Program).

Specifically, as a Safety and Industrial Hygiene Administrator you will:

  • Identify and evaluate employee exposure to noise, hazardous materials, and environmental agents. Oversee industrial hygiene sampling efforts, analyze results, and implement actions necessary to reduce employee risks where necessary

  • Produce and review jobsite and facility reports to ensure that working conditions and methods used by employees and contract personnel are in compliance with occupational safety and health standards

  • Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for occupational safety & health programs such as: Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space Entry, Asbestos, Lead Paint, and Blood Borne Pathogens

  • Work independently and in conjunction with other Safety Division personnel to develop long-range and short-term planning initiatives related to occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs

About You

What You'll Bring

A successful Safety & Industrial Hygiene Administrator will be keen on developing and faithfully executing safety policies and procedures for their assigned areas. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, a self-starter, and comfortable using a variety of data analysis and reporting software including Excel and SharePoint. The ideal candidate will also be attuned at identifying process improvement opportunities, producing clear and evidence-based policy/procedure change recommendations, and developing comprehensive training programs to educate workers on policy/procedure changes.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Professional experience in safety and health program administration, preferably in the utilities, manufacturing, agricultural/horticultural or forestry area

  • Practical knowledge and experience with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and other standards

  • Experience facilitating large class (25-100 attendees) safety trainings

  • Professional Certification (CIH or CSP desired)

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, a physical science, or a related field

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of professional level experience developing and implementing occupational safety and health policies and procedures, applying technological and scientific methods to reducing worker potential exposure to hazardous conditions and environments, and performing accident investigations

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements

  • Licensure: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
