JOB SUMMARY: The Safety and Environmental Manager will create, implement, and administer the Safety and Environmental program for KVAT Food Stores, Inc. This includes but not limited to worksite safety, customer safety, creating safety programs and training, policy creation, Emergency Action Plans (EAP), compliance with OSHA regulations, National Fire Protection codes, American National Standards Institute, and environmental codes as related to KVAT facilities. The objective of the SES Manager is to ensure KVAT provides a safe and healthy work environment and in compliance with those regulations and guidelines. Responsibilities are related to all KVAT locations (retail stores, distribution centers, corporate support centers).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspects all KVAT facilities to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.

  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of inspections.

  • Develops safety and environmental policy and procedures for all areas of the company.

  • Prepares and schedules training to cover EAP, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.

  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.

  • Completes inspection reports to document inspection findings and corrective actions needed.

  • Ensures that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are maintained and readily accessible when needed.

  • Keep current on OSHA, Dept of Transportation (DOT), Dept of Labor (DOL), and Center for Disease Control (CDC), Dept of Justice (Service Animal) and Americans with Disability Act (ADA) regulations and guidance.

  • Be the focal point for all OSHA visits and/or audits.

  • Works with insurance company engineers.

  • Completes and files all annual reports for OSHA, EPA and Bureau of Labor Statistics, DHS Anti-terrorism.

  • Meets with contractor's safety representatives responsible for safety and to explain our policies.

  • Meets with KVAT District Managers to discuss stores in their districts or to speak in their district/division meetings.

  • Must be able to travel as needed to inspect all KVAT locations.

  • Must be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all safety and environmental matters.

  • Ensures all training and compliance material are immediately available.

  • Establish rapport with all internal and external customers including but not limited to OSHA, DOL, DOT, Fire Marshals, and Insurance Engineers.

  • Must perform the Job Safety Analysis to determine the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for all jobs, including but not limited to their respective safety code.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred: (i) Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field, OR being a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Manager and Registered Environmental Manager; AND (ii) several years of field experience.

  • Proficient understanding of OSHA regulations related in each State of operation and federal laws.

  • Proficient and current on First-Aid, External Defibrillator (AED), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), OSHA 30, OSHA 10-hour, 24- or 40-Hour HAZMAT trained OR Must be able to complete the above-mentioned training within 6 months or by date determined by the General Counsel.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

  • OSHA-30-hour trained.

  • Confined Space Entry & Rescue trained.

  • First-aid, CPR, BBP, AED trainer or certification preferred.

  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, as position is generally performed in multiple locations with daily travel, as necessary, between store sites.
