The Safety Group in the Business Services Department (BSD) is looking for a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic Safety and Environmental Compliance Specialist. This position provides the opportunity to engage with employees throughout the City of Tucson's diverse functional areas to provide professional safety related training, guidance and support. This position is responsible for making technical and management level recommendations to the leadership regarding safety, health, and environmental regulatory and policy issues to include developing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining programs necessary to ensure safety and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
The position of Safety and Environmental Compliance Specialist provides technical and management level recommendations to City departments regarding safety, health and environmental regulatory and policy issues to include implementing occupational safety, health and environmental programs.
Develops and implements safety and training programs.
Performs safety inspections and investigations by visiting City facilities and employees, and reporting findings regarding hazards, exposures, risks and accidents/incidents.
Performs administrative work by conducting safety committee meetings to address safety concerns. Conducts research, generates trend analysis reports, and develops safety procedures.
Responds to emergency situations; works with other agencies regarding various safety issues, and provides guidance to City departments regarding OSHA program compliance.Answers complex technical safety, health and environmental questions using best practices, federal, state and local standards, and other regulatory administration standards, interpretations and codes.
Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications:
At least 3 years developing and implementing occupational safety, health and environmental programs
Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in a Presentation and Oral Board Interview.
Presentation and Oral Board interviews will be held on Monday, April 6, 2020.
If selected to participate in the Presentation and Oral Board assessment process, you will receive more information in regards to the presentation assignment.
Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List. An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:
This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.
