WesTech has a current opening for a paid summer internship in our Safety department. During this internship, the individual will assist with a wide range of safety functions. You will assist the Safety Manager with the scheduling, tracking, and administration of safety and compliance activities for the organization.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide administrative support to the Safety Manager including directing phone inquiries and other similar tasks.

  • Order, track, and ship Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for company employees.

  • Maintain compliance tracking and reporting requirements for various compliance and governmental agencies.

  • Prepare and maintain pre-qualification requests.

  • Initiate, and coordinate development of, action plans to maintain new compliance agency(ies), as needed.

  • Schedule and track MSHA, OSHA, First Aid/CPR/AED, and other site-specific training requirements.

  • Support Safety Council Quarterly and Safety sub-committee activities including taking minutes, scheduling meetings, creating and tracking action items, collecting inspections, and completing Sharepoint updates.

  • Process and ensure invoices are tracked and paid promptly

  • Provide administrative support to the management of industrial hygiene, claims and other safety-related confidential records.

  • Maintain incidents spreadsheet and tracking.

  • Schedule Safety Week and related activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or higher course of study for Safety, or related field

  • Possess excellent computer skills - MS Office Suite

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Possess a positive attitude

  • Ability to speak and write in English as a proficient or higher level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of college-level coursework and/or degree(s)

  • Training or classes in OSHA, Safety, or similar field.

  • Prior experience working in a Safety-focused role

  • Two or more years of administrative experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

  • Ability to work from a desk for prolonged periods and regularly move around the facility.

  • Standing, Walking, Climbing, including a step ladder, stooping, sitting, bending, talking, hearing, and seeing.

A successful Safety Engineer will develop positive professional relationships while working closely with field personnel, all levels of management and outside agencies during all phases of construction. This will be a field position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and will require up to 70% travel. Safety Engineer Duties: * Act as a liaison between management, outside local safety agencies, and insurance carriers * Coordinate with district operation personnel to establish safety standards * Create a system for communicating safety and health issues to include: 1).General employee/department safety meetings 2).Formal safety training for safe work practices 3).Posting of various safety communications 4).Development of a safety suggestion system * Coordinate, monitor, and provide technical support for district safety committees * Coordinate and conduct periodic job site visits of all crews to identify unsafe work conditions and practices * Document and communicate site visit information * Coordinate other supplemental inspections whenever new processes, equipment, substances, or previously unrecognized hazards are found to be present * Verify that corrective measures are completed, including recommendations of the safety committee, insurance carrier, and/or other safety consultant * Review and complete corrective actions for all injury and illness investigation reports * Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable * The essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company designated office location Experience within the Transmission, Distribution and Substation electrical construction industry is essential to the success of this role. Job Requirements Safety Engineer Skills/Qualifications: * Minimum of 5 years experience working with electrical Transmission and Distribution line construction projects preferred * Prior experience in a safety role highly preferred * Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry related safety regulations required * Journeyman Lineman experience working with (overhead) transmission and distribution line construction required Salary commensurate with experience.
