Job Summary

SAFE SCHOOL AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION OFFICER DEFINITION Under the direction of a site administrator, the officers will work with students to communicate effectively and resolve conflict, as well as act as a sounding board for student concerns. Officers will also help maintain order and security and prevent illegal acts on campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Participate in conflict resolution training. 2. Teach pupils alternative approaches to violence. 3.

Control crowds at special events and prevent fights, property damage and other misconduct. 4. Identify troubled youth and work with counselors to help assist pupils. 5. Monitor school buildings, yards, parking areas, and adjacent areas. 6.

Monitor Saturday school. 7. Assist with school detention and in school suspension. 8. Assist with campus activities. 9.

Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and Abilities: 1. Learn and teach conflict resolution skills. 2.

Understand basic interests and attitudes of adolescents. 3. Utilize skills to maintain positive relationships with students and adults. 4. Demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. 5.

Facilitate communications between students, enhance understanding and promote a secure environment. 6. Assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations. 7. Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance. 8.

Understand and follow oral and written directions. 9. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 10. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. 11.

Observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action. Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent is required.

Enrolled in college or enrolled in or completed a law enforcement program is highly desirable. Has experience in working with youth in an organized setting.
