Primary Purpose
Responsible for oversight and coordination of the hospitals safe patient handling program.
Minimum Specifications
Education
Experience
Certification/Registration/Licensure
Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license
OR- Must have current licensure as a Physical Therapist with the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for Texas
OR-
Must have current licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the State of Texas.
Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:
American Heart Association
American Red Cross
Skills or Special Abilities
Must have knowledge and experience with patient movement techniques.
Must have knowledge and experience with safe patient handling equipment.
Must have effective communication skills.
Must be self-directed, analytical, organized and creative with complex projects and able to effectively deliver presentations and training programs.
Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of personal computers, to include word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Must be detail oriented and have sharp analytical skills to resolve complex patient issues.
Must demonstrate a positive demeanor, good leadership skills, good verbal and written communication skills, and be professional in both appearance and approach.
Must demonstrate teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collect and analyze data to identify trends and recommend process improvement.
Responsibilities
Coordinates all safe patient handling activities across the enterprise to ensure consistency, compliance and positive outcomes for both patients and staff.
Serves as a liaison to all clinical departments, Institutional Risk Management, Patient Safety and Risk, Quality and Clinical Effectiveness, and Clinical Education to collaborate on safe practices for both patients and staff.
Maintains/analyzes data and develops QAPI projects to show the efficacy and sustainability of the program as it relates to staff and patient safety.
Designs training programs, provides training to clinical staff and develops key staff in each department to carry out the programs in their respective areas.
Designs educational materials regarding assigned programs and works collaboratively with clinical education to reach all staff in clinical areas with relevant information.
Develops policies and procedures to support the assigned programs.
Supports special projects within their area of responsibility.
Maintains positive working relationships with all clinical hospital departments.
