Responsibilities

Provide Safety and Supervision of students who are acting out in a manner that is compromising the safety of themselves, others or to the milieu. The S&A Manager should offer guidance and direction to S&A staff and to the students admitted to the area through assuring that practice and protocols for the area are adhered to.

Hours are 11am-7pm Sunday through Wednesday.

Qualifications

Educational background in social work, psychology, or related fields helpful; acceptable oral and written communication skills; legible handwriting; ability to maintain information as highly confidential; telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face-to-face; familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred; skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the school; basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology useful; skills in prioritizing and in managing time; problem-solving skills; use of appropriate social skills, including demonstration and respect for staff and patients; empathy toward patients, skills in clinical evaluation and decision-making, must be able to concentrate on work amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic; be able to consistently meet deadlines regardless of case load; be flexible in work hours in order to meet patient and school operating needs, must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations, such as when verbally or physically confronted in an aggressive manner, must be able to work independently, with little supervision in an unstructured environment with multiple demands, reading and writing level that can clearly express or understand complex concepts, assessments, directions and processes or sequences of events; level equivalent to at least two years of college, current (or eligible for) CPR certification, Emergency Water Safety, and Lifeguard Certification.

Responsible for security during duty shift.� Takes necessary precautions to prevent runaways. Discusses possible security risks during shift change meetings.� Frequently (at least hourly) checks with each cottage to ensure that all patients are accounted for.� Coordinate with all cottages on movement of patients. Responsible for the appearance of the cottages, common areas, and grounds during duty shift. Responsible for the general maintenance of the building and grounds during duty shift. Contacts the on-call Plant operations staff for urgent items requiring attention. Coordinates with kitchen supervisor to ensure meals run smoothly. Responsible for the coordination of visits on shift.� Monitors scheduled departures and returns and reports deviations to the Program Manager.� Ensures that check-out and check-in procedures are strictly followed; luggage and personal belongings are secured before departure and following return; shift report portion of visit request form is completed and signed; a proper search is conducted of a patient's person as soon as he/she arrives and before he/she returns to his/her cottage; visitors are debriefed before leaving. Ensures that outings / activities occur as scheduled and are appropriately supervised. Ensures that school policies and procedures are strictly followed concerning Special Treatment Procedures and proper authorization is obtained for use of time-out or seclusion rooms. Responsible for the use and care of radios during duty shift. Conducts on-going and annual evaluations for staff.� Identifies areas for further training and ensures that training is received. Attends weekly department manager's meeting and weekly program coordination meetings.
