Pay Range

Pay Range

$113,790 - $170,904 Annually

$113,790 - $141,276 Annually for the 337.1 level

$137,640 - $170,904 Annually for the 339.2 level

Job Description

We have an opening for an Explosives Firing Technical Operations Supervisor. You will oversee a team of technicians who provide safe and efficient support to programmatic operations within the S300 Firing Facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical group leads provide employees with day-to-day assignments and maintain a reasonable workload. The administrative supervisor position is a fractional time position, and the successful candidate must maintain a technical role within their respective program. This position is in the Facilities and Operations Support team within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Directorate.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role you will

  • Provide advanced technical oversight and direct administrative supervision to electronics and operations support personnel.

  • Foster staff development, mentoring and coaching to staff, and participate in performance evaluation, peer grouping, and hiring activities.

  • Maintain close working relationships with group leader/s, program management, and facility management to ensure timely, cost-effective execution of operations support services.

  • Collaborate with the programmatic staff to apply innovative technical expertise on the definition of functional requirements, solve complex technical and resource problems, and evaluate alternative design concepts consistent with schedule, cost, and material limitations.

  • Represent division and program at meetings, briefings, and other activities both internal and external to the Laboratory.

  • Develop and implement training and individual development programs for personnel assigned to fielding operations.

  • Ensure compliance of all Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) requirements, and training and mentoring of team members.

  • Recognize, create, and implement plans to promote and foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 339.2 level

  • Provide highly advanced daily technical oversight and direct administrative supervision to electronics and operations support personnel.

  • Collaborate with the programmatic staff to apply innovative technical expertise on the definition of functional requirements, solve highly complex technical and resource problems, and evaluate alternative design concepts consistent with schedule, cost, and material limitations.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or engineering technology (or equivalent combination of education and experience) with extensive related experience.

  • Experience providing administrative and technical leadership through the effective utilization of personnel and resources.

  • Experience working in an explosive or equivalent high-hazard operational area and ability to work safely around High Explosives.

  • Familiarity with conduct of operations principles, procedures and advanced knowledge of environmental safety and health procedures, requirements, and reporting.

  • Ability to approach and resolve difficult issues using mature judgement, creative problem-solving skills, and inclusive decision-making techniques.

  • Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to interact effectively with people at all levels and ensure that program requirements are conveyed in a timely manner.

Additional qualifications at the 339.2 level

  • Extensive experience working in an explosive or equivalent high-hazard operational area and ability to work safely around High Explosives.

  • Highly advanced knowledge of conduct of operations principles, procedures and advanced knowledge of environmental safety and health procedures, requirements, and reporting.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience preparing performance appraisals and participating in ranking and salary processes.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of LLNL policies, procedures, ES&H requirements, and demonstrated ability to work in an equivalent highly regulated environment.

  • Demonstrated experience implementing plans that promote and value inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability principles in the workplace.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
