Position Summary: The Program Director of HIV Education Program will provide leadership in the planning, coordination and implementation of HIV educational and prevention programs in accordance with the goals and objectives specified by the MidAtlantic AIDS Education and Training Center (MAAETC), Virginia HIV/AIDS Resource and Consultation Center (VHARCC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Capacity Building grants. The position ensures that educational programs, technical assistance, capacity building, and consultation are provided to the appropriate audiences across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Program Director will develop and implement ongoing outreach programs to enhance the accessibility of services and to promote the effective utilization of consultation, training, and educational resources. The position is responsible for setting guidelines for quality improvement initiatives and making recommendations for budgetary planning with regard to these initiatives.

Core Responsibilities:

o Prepare program narratives (reports) and other information to the central office of MAAETC and VDH Capacity grant monthly and VHARCC quarterly (as directed by each agency).

o Assess the budget requirements for future program needs.

o Monitor database system of participants who attend training activities sponsored by the MAAETC, VHARCC and VDH Capacity grant.

o Provide technical assistance to agencies, including governmental and community-based organizations.

o Attend the MAAETC and VHARCC Consortium meetings and update PI and staff members on MAAETC and VHARCC programs, conferences, budget projections and any sub-contractual issues.

o Develop and implement ongoing outreach programs to enhance accessibility of services and to promote effective utilization of consultation, training and educational resources.

o Participates in public education activities related to HIV prevention, testing/counseling, HIV medications and adherence, cultural competency and other related areas of HIV care.

o Expectations are clearly communicated to staff and relate to the goals and objectives of the program with feedback solicited and constructive communication offered.

o Responsible for recruitment, orientation and training of new employees o Attend and represent the VCU HIV Education Program, MAAETC and VHARCC at local, state, national and international meetings and conferences.

o Monitor education program content of VCU HIV Education Program programs and website.

Minimum Hiring Standards:

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Knowledge of state and federal funded grants.

  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to relate well to health care professionals, members of VDH, VHARCC, MAAETC staff and public employee.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently under minimum supervision and as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Experience with data collection/entry.

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals from culturally and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to interpret regional work plan(s) and implement into comprehensible education plan(s) for local service.

  • Must meet specific deadlines and coordinate multiple tasks.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to implement privacy and confidentiality practices.

  • Valid VA Driver's License required.

  • People management experience.
