Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position assists in the operation and maintenance of boats, vessels, and marine equipment. Position reports to the Marine Superintendent, and work is performed under the direct supervision of the Captain of the vessel.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Knowledge of marine maintenance and repair; Ability to work independently; Ability to work in a variety of conditions, climate controlled and outdoor environments; Demonstrated ability to maintain working relationships in a diverse environment.
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 70 pounds repeatedly throughout the work day; Work at sea for periods of several days to several weeks.

Duties/Responsibilities
Responsible of the operation and maintenance of deck equipment, including frames, winches, crane and ship's tender.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Loading and Unloading scientific gear, deployment and retrieval of scientific instrumentation and deck operations.

Stand navigational watches as directed by the Captain.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Assist in the maintenance of safety equipment and participation in safety drills.

Perform various housekeeping assignments which on occasion may include cooking.
