Responsibilities
A Post-doctoral Research Fellow position is being offered by the lab of Dr. Navin Gupta in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and division of Nephrology and Hypertension, at Mayo Clinic - Rochester.
Research projects are related to disease modeling and therapeutic discovery using 3-dimensional spheroids of human stem cell-derived kidney tissue, termed kidney organoids. Actively funded projects include 1. Modeling diabetic nephropathy in vascularized kidney organoids-on-chip with emphasis on the role of intercellular NOTCH/DLL4 signaling as a driver of histologic changes, 2-3.
Modeling polycystic kidney disease with genotype-phenotype correlation, as a platform to conduct gene therapy via viral transfer, as well as to interrogate novel cystogenic pathways and identify druggable targets. This research is supported by the NIH - NIDDK, the Polycystic Kidney Disease Research Resource Consortium, the Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCATS), and a Kathryn and Roger Penske Career Development Award in Endocrinology.
Qualifications
Attributes of a highly desired candidate include:
A doctoral degree with a background in cell biology, molecular biology, or a similar field. MDs with extensive bench research experience will also be considered.
Prior experience with human pluripotent stem cells is preferred - training can be provided
Experience with basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques
Desire to learn new skills and perform meticulous work
Ability to communicate well both verbally and written
