Manage, coordinate and participate in a variety of administrative and/or clinical activities related to the Duke University Hospital Rapid Response Team and Early Clinical Deterioration Detection program(s); prepare and manage budgets, supervise staff performing RRT Nurse role, and develop policies and procedures consistent with program and organizational objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Administer and coordinate operational activities of RRT and Early Clinical Deterioration Detection Program within Nursing Services; make decisions on specific operating problems and issue instructions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Plan, develop and implement goals and objectives of RRT and Early Clinical Deterioration Detection Program in conjunction with appropriate department head, nursing leadership, and medical director; evaluate program objectives on a continual basis; implement changes to existing policies and procedures as appropriate.
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor costs and expenditures of program activities and authorize expenditures of program funds.
Develop business and financial recommendation regarding program equipment/capital, emerging technology, staffing models, and future program needs.
Participate in establishing and maintaining communication between clinical units, ancillary department, physicians, nursing personnel and other health care professionals regarding program policies and procedures.
Develop clinical and operational effectiveness data management strategy. Facilitate communication of performance to appropriate stakeholders and oversight forums. Develop and maintain performance improvement and quality management plans related to scope of program.
Plan and conduct meetings to ensure compliance with established practices and keep employees abreast of current standards; develop, in conjunction with others, appropriate training and employee orientation programs related to the RRT and Early Clinical Deterioration Detection Program.
Assist in the selection, provision, and control of material resources required for subsequent performance of duties to include equipment, supplies, and training materials.
Administer various personnel actions including, but not limited to:
Development of staffing coverage model for RRT and Early Clinical Deterioration Detection Program.
Selection of RRT Nurses for program
Orientation, development, and evaluation of clinical competency of RRT Nurses
Participate in role specific evaluation of RRT Nurses with their unit manager
Compile and maintain appropriate training records, reports and documentation of program activities to be used for program evaluation and regulatory compliance.
Significant patient care experience in critical care and, ideally, with RRT's
Experience with personnel management including hiring, onboarding, schedule management, performance review
Comfort with data collection and analysis
Leadership experience or leadership potential. Will need to be comfortable presenting regularly to health system leadership
Willingness to build this program from the ground up. This will require vision, commitment, and also flexibility.
Prior experience with process improvement would be great, although not an absolute requirement
Provide RRT Nurse Role staffing coverage to maintain clinical competency and cover staffing gaps when appropriate.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Experience:3 years of ICU nursing experience, CN3
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina required. BLS required.
