ROWING SUPERVISOR, MOUNT BAKER

Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center sits on the shores of Lake Washington in Seattle and enjoys access to miles of open waterway. Our facility has multiple indoor instruction spaces and workout areas along with easily accessible motor launches and administrative staff support. Our primary focus is to provide safe, enjoyable programs that use competitive opportunities as a catalyst for social, emotional, and physical development.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Rowing Supervisor (RS) at Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center (facility) is a position employed by the Associated Recreation Council (ARC) which will support and provide program oversight for the overall mission of the facility, Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), and the Boating Advisory Council (BAC) through the management of the facility's rowing programs and equipment.

As a Rowing Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to perform a range of duties including managing the day-to-day activities related to rowing, assisting SPR staff in program development and review, oversee ARC instructors, and manage program equipment. This position may also include coaching of program participants.

WORK SCHEDULE:

25 administrative hours per week to be coordinated with SPR site supervisor and up to 15 hours per week of coaching hours per week.

Coaching hours involve:

  • Able to enter and exit 13'-15' motor launches

  • Carry up to 50 lbs

  • Stand for extended periods of time

  • Able to be active for 5 - 10 hours a day during competitions

  • Work in a variety of weather conditions

  • Weekend and evening hours may be required for competition, meetings, and special events.

Administrative hours involve:

  • Sitting at a workstation for several hours

  • Some work in non-climate-controlled spaces

  • Weekend and evening hours may be required for staff training, meetings, and special events.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR THE ROLE

  • Degree in recreation, business administration, or related field or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum three years competitive rowing coaching experience along with experience planning travel logistics for large groups. Experience leading a team of people is must.

  • Enthusiastic and inclusive approach to coaching with the ability to motivate and engage participants of various ages, levels, and goals.

  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Reliable, organized, punctual and dependable.

  • Effective communication skills (written and oral) with the confidence and ability to give clear instructions to both coaches and participants.

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with people at all levels.

  • Computer savvy, able to learn new systems to manage and track data. Familiarity with Microsoft Office: Word and Excel is a plus

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR THE ROLE

  • Experience supervising employees and managing personal data in compliance with City of Seattle policies and procedures.

  • Rigging and trailer driving experience

  • Rowing equipment repair and maintenance

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Washington State Driver's license.

  • Washington State Boater's Education certification within 1 month of hire

  • CPR/First Aid certification within 1 month of hire.

  • Training is offered through Mount Baker.US Rowing level 2 coaching certificate or equivalent.

  • Level 3 or higher is preferred.

  • USOPC SafeSport Coaching Certificate within 1 week of hire.

TRAVEL

  • Competitions will require travel into Canada, across country via airline, or driving to regional and local competitions.

  • Travel may also be required for professional development opportunities as approved by the supervisor.
