POSITION SUMMARY:
This position develops and maintains computerized optimal routing schedules and solutions following established guidelines. Conducts computer simulations and provides logistical information for transportation planning.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Uses routing software to develop and maintain a computerized database of school bus routing and scheduling information.
Maintains optimal routing efficiency of operation and use of drivers.
Creates and evaluates various routing and scheduling options given various constraints such as fleet size, bell times, safety hazards, and budget constraints.
Employs routing software to conduct projections, simulations and studies as directed
Provides routing lists, driver's directions and student rosters for drivers and school staff as required
Conducts daily system and database maintenance functions
Creates, updates and maintains maps to include drawing in new streets and defining attributes
Manages and monitors appropriate student ridership for bus load capacities
Supervises bus routes to ensure that drivers maintain a tablet/route folder with accurate routing information
Develops and maintains database information for annual state reporting
Notify drivers, parents and school staff of any changes in a student's bus service
Oversees the Administrative Assistant Router and lends support with routing related functions
Performs bus driving duties as required
Develops and maintains database information used for state transportation reporting
Resolves complex customer inquiries, problems or issues relating to routing. Identifies if corrections are needed and initiates correction process if necessary
Responds to customer questions, problems and requests in a positive manner.
Provides customers with requested information, adjustments and assistance with routing-related issues.
Performs other duties as assigned
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience in transportation or related field performing routing functions
Excellent customer service and organizational skills
General clerical skills that include working knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel
Demonstrated ability to train others
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective writing and communication skills
Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently.
Must be eligible to obtain and hold a CDL with school bus endorsement within 3 months of hire.

Desired:
Experience with student transportation software operations and data base management
At least one year of school bus routing experience
Valid CDL with school bus endorsement
Experience using Traversa
Knowledge of Infinite Campus student management system
