Under the direction of the Solid Waste Superintendent and his Assistant, this position supervises employees engaged in collecting solid waste and refuse; investigates complaints; conducts follow up inspections; and assists in the enforcement of the city's Solid Waste Regulations. In addition, this position performs record keeping; conducts and documents safety training, and accident investigations and property damage claims. This position will be required to work shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime as necessary by the department, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.

  • Performs general supervisory tasks of assigned personnel and collection routes, including: schedules, assignments, and solid waste collection activities.

  • Maintains good contact with department head and provides feedback on operations.

  • Continuously checks on operation of crews.

  • Checks cleanliness of alleys and trash collection areas.

  • Takes attendance and reports absences.

  • Observes equipment and containers for proper operation, service maintenance and repair needs.

  • Investigates complaints received from the public and employees.

  • Instructs crews on complaints received, follows up as needed, and observes disposal practices of customers and notes any violations.

  • Encourages compliance with regulations and files formal complaints, if necessary.

  • Compiles Daily Reports and must be able to fill out all types of forms used in the collection of solid waste and refuse.

  • Investigates and documents accidents and property damage.

  • Conducts and documents safety instructional meetings with personnel.

  • Works all hours and fills in other supervisor's positions as assigned.

  • Accounts for all assigned City property and participates in regular inventories as required.

  • Manages the budget for the section and makes or authorizes purchases for needed materials or supplies.

  • Maintains route sheets for addresses and pickup schedules for solid waste containers.

  • Investigates and documents accidents and property damage.

  • Conducts and documents safety instruction meetings with personnel.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of three years of related experience. College level coursework preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain within one year of employment a Class C Solid Waste License from the T.C.E.Q. Valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License required.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee must also walk, stand, sit, hear, crouch, reach, speak, see, and talk. Also requires the ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to schedule, assign, and oversee Equipment Operators and Laborers.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of light, medium and medium-large solid waste collection equipment and trucks.

  • Must possess computer skills necessary to compose reports, correspondence.

  • Knowledge of basic telephone etiquette.

  • Ability to schedule, assign, and oversee equipment operators.

  • Ability to integrate with other levels of personnel.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers.

  • Ability to use or repair heavy or complex machinery, such as construction equipment or earthmoving equipment.

  • Ability to use or repair small equipment such as hand and power tools.

  • Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.

  • Ability to establish policies for using, acquiring, and/or maintaining heavy or complex machinery.

Essential Job Functions:

The employee must also walk, stand, sit, hear, crouch, reach, speak, see, and talk. Also requires the ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.

Work Hours:

Works 6:00 am to 5pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday or 6:30am to 3:30pm, Monday-Friday.

Requires 24-hour emergency call out availability.

Must be able to work all hours and fill in other supervisors position as assigned.

RSSRs drive a truck along an established route and service and sell within an existing customer base. It is a physical, fast-paced, indoor/outdoor position in which the RSSR delivers and picks up uniforms, shop towels, chemical cleaning products and other rental items. RSSRs are the face of Cintas to our customers and must work to build rapport with key decision makers, ensure quality standards and pro-actively solve customer concerns. Job responsibilities also include growing our existing customer base by upselling and cross-selling additional products and services, negotiating service agreement renewals and controlling inventory while working professionally, safely and in compliance with driving and vehicle regulations. The vast majority of RSSRs work 4 days per week and no weekends. Skills/Qualifications Required Qualified candidates must meet all requirements outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) for driving a regulated vehicle weighing more than 10,000 lbs.
