What is a Route Relief Driver?

As a Full Time Route Relief Driver, you will be responsible for supporting sales initiatives while providing work force back-up support during transitional/peak volume periods within a district area. In addition, you will also be responsible for working with management to manage customer relationships by continuous communication between sales, merchandising, and distribution operations.


  • Sell company products based on store plans and to gain space within the store

  • Distribute and deliver products to assigned stores

  • Pre-sell existing accounts for next delivery to retail stores

  • Perform reset work as required

  • Resolve customer complaints and incorrect orders

  • Abide by Department of Transportation rules and regulations

  • Ensure all required reports, credit and debit invoices and documents are processed

  • Pre-order sales for delivery to customers



  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • One or more years of related experience

  • Basic math and English speaking skills

  • Access to a cell phone device for phone and text capabilities

  • Must be at least 21 years of age. Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must meet the Federal Department of Transportation medical certification requirements and driver eligibility, including the ability to secure and maintain a Class B CDL with an air brake endorsement

WORKING CONDITIONS: What should you expect as a Route Relief Driver?

  • Established Delivery Sales Route: Routes start in the AM hours and go until the daily delivery requirements are fulfilled, subject to hours of service regulations set by the Department of Transportation.

  • Some Overnight Travel: Outside travel to local market may be required as needed by the business to cover open routes. (Lodging, meals and travel expenses are compensated per company guidelines.)

  • Local Delivery: Sales routes service customers in the local and surrounding areas, with regular deliveries being made Monday-Friday. (Occasional Saturday deliveries may be required)

  • Active & Fast Paced Environment: As a Route Relief Driver, your route and customers will change based on the support needed. This offers a great variety and flexibility to your work schedule where every day you will have the opportunity to help our company reach its sales goals

This includes securing orders from new and existing customers, establishing and maintaining customer relations, merchandising product to maximize sales, providing accurate and timely delivery of the product to customers, and managing orders and returns. A successful Area Salesperson will perform all duties in accordance with company policy, standards or established procedures. A commitment to teamwork, a clean, professional appearance, enthusiasm, customer-focused behaviors and a high energy level are necessary. Responsibilities Principal Duties and Responsibilities Sales * Establish relationship with appropriate manager at each account * Coordinate with customer the best location for displays in order to maximize sales * Coordinate with customer to secure additional displays * Audit accounts for product mix and inventory * Make suggestions to customer for additional product items available * Project/Forecast customer orders with the use of various tools to include handheld computers or invoices * Secure customer orders for products according to customer expectations * Utilize sales tools on daily basis (i.e., handhelds, order forecast sheets, etc.) * Set-up and maintain sales displays to ensure that they are positioned in appropriate locations and clean at all times * Operate automated computer hand-held invoicing/sales data equipment where applicable * Execute product promotions to maximize sales * Monitor and control returns to maximize profitability * Identify potential new accounts and work with Sales Management to secure relationship Customer Service * Greet customer in a courteous manner * Promptly, professionally and appropriately address any customer complaints, concerns and inquiries * Handle difficult customer situations professionally * Responsible for notifying manager of any customer complaints/concerns and action taken Product Delivery * Load delivery vehicle with appropriate product counts and varieties for the daily delivery schedule * Safely drive and operate the delivery vehicle * Deliver accurate product orders to customers by the agreed upon delivery time * Remove out of date product each delivery date and issue appropriate credits * Execute proof of delivery requirements to allow for collection of account receivables * Load out of date product and empty racks and trays into vehicle for return to work site * Track returns and dispose of out of date product according to company policy * Deliver and stage empty trays and carts at worksite according to company standards Safety and Sanitation * Comply with all safety and sanitation standards * Maintain good personal hygiene * Maintain a clean and neat uniform at all times * Drive safely and abide all appropriate traffic rules and regulations * Maintain a clean vehicle at all times * Maintain clean sales displays * Report all moving violations and accidents involving injury or property damage immediately Vehicle Maintenance * Utilize the Vehicle Inspection and Damage Report Form to perform routine maintenance checks as required * Keep company vehicle clean * Perform basic maintenance such as checking the oil * Report any vehicle maintenance concerns to a supervisor Leadership * Uphold an ethic of teamwork with fellow employees * Maintain a sincere, courteous and respectful demeanor with coworkers, supervisors and customers * Work with management and supervision to improve performance and implement new initiatives * Use good judgment and avoid risk taking while operating a company vehicle * Other duties as assigned Qualifications Essential Skills and Experience * Organizational skills * Successfully complete Territory Sales Training Program * Ability to drive and operate delivery vehicle safely for considerable amounts of time in various environmental conditions * Basic math skills * Ability to read and write * Strong interpersonal skills * Must meet Krispy Kreme driving standards (21 years of age and three year clean driving) * High School Diploma or Equivalent * Pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and Motor Vehicles Report * Previous Territory Sales experience preferred * Previous job stability preferred Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
