PURPOSEAND ROLE:

The Rotating Equipment Engineer reports directly to the Refinery'sEngineering Manager and provides the necessary support to accomplish therefinery's objectives in the most safe, economical and technically feasiblemanner. The position will requirea high level of coordination with processing, production, maintenance,and project engineering departments and is a hands on position requiringworking in the field to solve problems. This position isresponsible for providing engineering services to optimize equipment life andplant profitability.

JOB DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Championsthe rotating equipment reliability efforts in assigned areas of responsibilityby providing technical assistance in resolving equipment design, operation, andmaintenance problems.

  • Ensureall work is performed safely and in accordance with all Calumet procedures.

  • Assistsin formulating, implementing, maintaining and auditing Preventive Maintenance(PM) and Predictive Diagnostics Maintenance (PdM) programs and make recommendations forreliability improvement and failure avoidance.

  • Assists Operations,and Maintenance Department in developing procedures, training, and processes toensure equipment is operated within its design parameters.

  • Advisesproject engineering on new capital designs and installations to ensure thatequipment reliability, operability, and maintainability, are addressed.

  • Developsand reviews equipment specifications and standards for reliability improvement.

  • CoordinatesRoot Cause Analysis (RCA) processes and tracks the implementation ofrecommendations through resolution.

  • Utilizesreliability tools such as failure calculations, failure evaluations and costand risk analysis to evaluate and prioritize reliability issues.

  • Participatein audits to measure the effectiveness of reliability related activities suchas equipment repairs, part quality and failure investigation process.

  • Conductslife cycle cost analysis on new and critical equipment.

  • Recommendsprojects and/or studies to project engineering to support overall plantreliability.

  • Assistsin spare parts review for ensuring equipment maintainability and availability.

  • Generate andmaintain life cycle scorecards for process machinery.

  • Ensure allprograms have adequate procedures, metrics and audit functions in place to meetthe refinery's vision.

  • Developcost justification for reliability improvement.

  • Trainon new technologies and methods for maintaining equipment to increase reliability.

  • Continueto improve the reliability tools and methods utilized in increasing plantreliability.

  • Otheractivities as assigned by the Calumet management team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in rotating equipment engineering field, Refining / Chemical, or related Industrial field and strong exposure to rotating equipment principles and practices

  • Flexible and willing to support off-shift call-in support, must be available to work extra hours as needed and work outdoors in adverse weather conditions as needed.

  • Abilityto multitask and manage conflicting and changing priorities

  • Effectiveinterpersonal and communication skills (written and oral); problem solving andanalytical skills; computer literacy; team player, self-motivated andwillingness to provide field guidance

EXPERIENCE& SKILLS:

  • Workingknowledge of functions and design/operation of plant rotating and fixedequipment, process and products; methods development and procedures; repairmaintenance of rotating equipment.

  • Experience in root cause analysis, strong troubleshooting capability and failure investigation and analyses, developing corrective action plans and tracking all rotating equipment KPI's.

  • Experience with Bentley-Nevada equipment monitoring or vibrational analysis is a plus

  • Working knowledge of API codes for rotating equipment

  • Experience in machine design and manufacture is preferred

  • Backgroundin performing root cause failure analyses, developing corrective action plansand tracking all rotating equipment KPI's.

  • Excellentcommunication skills, including oral, written, and electronic.

  • Working knowledge of CMMS

  • Abilityto manage multiple activities, conflicting,changing priorities andprioritize tasks with minimal direction or oversight.

  • Provensafety experience/training and leadership regarding oil and gas operationsincluding but not limited to: confined space, lock out tag out, hot work, safework permits, personal protective equipment, and other critical safetyprocedures.

  • Abilityto learn any potential new Engineering processes/systems and equipment quickly.

  • Mustpossess skills in PC Workstation, Windows, and JD Edwards and SAP knowledge isa plus.

  • Must process excellent troubleshooting skills and problem solving skills
