Scientific Drilling is looking for a Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS) Technician/Machinist to work at our Northeast District in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide. Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world. The RSS Technician Repairs and maintains all Rotary Steerable System (RSS) tools run by Scientific Drilling, prepares tools for field service as well as builds and repairs assembly and test fixtures using a manual lathe, mill and other machine shop tools. The RSS Technician is expected to perform the essential duties listed below. Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Custom fit spare parts and repair tool components using manual mill, lathe and other machine shop tools

  • Modify and build assembly fixtures and tools

  • Disassemble clean and inspect RSS tool components

  • Identify, log and replace worn out tool components

  • Assemble, test and trouble shoot RSS tools

  • Fill out paperwork such as check lists, maintenance records and inventory sheets

  • Support new developments and tool testing

  • May be required to work overtime

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experienced to work on complex mechanical assemblies

  • Previous work experience in oil field tool maintenance is a plus

  • Good working knowledge using a manual mill, lathe and other machine shop tools and equipment

  • Experience with electric / electronic systems is an advantage

  • Welding skills (MIG, TIG) is a plus

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Experienced in using mechanical tools and equipment

  • Experienced in reading technical drawings and schematics

  • Capable to identify and solve problems

  • Able to communicate effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally

  • Basic knowledge in MS Office Software (Excel, Word)
