To further the mission of Camp Shalom through the development and delivery of challenge course (high and low ropes course) at the camp. Deliver challenge course activities, including teambuilding, that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' age and abilities. Provide the management and inspection to the physical operation of the challenge course facilities and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Minimum 18 years old.Individuals with equivalent work experience and appropriate training may be considered.

Experience: Minimum 1 year training and experience in teaching challenge course activities to children of all ages

Licensure: Current certification in challenge course operation or documented experience and training, CPR/First Aid for children, Epi Pen Training

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff

  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the challenge course

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers

  • Ability to take initiative and direction

  • Knowledge and passion to work with children

  • Be enthusiastic and creative

  • Ability to consistently deliver quality customer service

Must have the ability to enforce all facility rules and policies in a gentle but firm manner to people of all ages

SPECIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Be patient and tolerant with children and adults

  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers

  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for campers, abiding by all camp rules/policies. Being able to assist campers in an emergency

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to weather conditions; outdoor activities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Member Services

Create a warm, welcoming environment for all

Programming

  • Assist Director to deliver a fun challenge program to campers

  • Evaluate challenge abilities of campers and staff

  • Evaluate the success of the challenge programs and the development of the campers' abilities and skills in challenge course

  • Expand the camp's activities with new games and initiatives

  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures in challenge course

  • Assist Director to provide overall care of the physical facilities and equipment in the challenge course program area

  • Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair

  • Maintain the challenge course equipment and elements

  • Clean challenge course area daily keeping it free of hazards and debris

  • Assist in the planning of any special events on or near the challenge course

  • Supervise groups of campers with staff, acting as a teacher, guardian, and friend to all campers

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served - help foster self confidence in campers

  • Encourage and role model safe, cooperative play and team work

  • Supervise campers participation in structured and unstructured activities

  • Apply proper discipline in a caring manner, where campers learn the difference between correct and incorrect behavior (at no time will corporal punishment or physical means be tolerated)

Other Job Duties:

  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned

  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnight, and other all-camp activities and camp functions

Ensure the Daily Inspection Log book is complete daily

Under $25,000
