General Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The Production Supervisor, Rolling Mill is a leadership position overseeing all Rolling Mill shift operations. The primary goal of this position is to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Rolling Mill.

This position is responsible for providing direction and oversight to their direct reports, front-line on-shift supervisors, as well as supporting the overall team, in maintaining a high-level of performance, while executing work in a safe manner. This position requires strong interpersonal and leadership skills, the ability to work autonomously and make real-time, high-quality decisions based on facts presented. Position requires the ability to maintain a professional demeanor always while representing the Company with internal and external individuals and the ability to achieve goals through negotiation, motivation, problem-solving and feedback.

The Production Supervisor, Rolling Mill must have the ability to utilize data to analyze production performance and develop/implement solutions to increase productivity. Also requires ability/skill in operating the software necessary to perform the duties of this position, such as Microsoft Windows and Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as various other business software specific to CSRM.

This position operates within broad parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position, providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages four (4) shift supervisors and ensures compliance with all Company policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates regularly with Finishing, Roll Shop and Maintenance.

  • Collaborates with other supervisors to improve productivity and to reduce overall production down time.

  • Coordinates all activities related to rolling mill production. Assists in planning work assignments based on production schedules and machine capabilities.

  • Manages rolling mill equipment processes and troubleshoots malfunctions.

  • Collaborates with Superintendent and Process Engineers on production processes to identify opportunities to increase efficiency, as well as safety, suggests revisions to operational methods and implements any needed process modifications.

  • Maintains the department safety functions; ensures that safety practices are promoted and upheld, and standards are maintained. Schedules safety meetings.

  • Confers with management and Process Engineers on implementation of quality and reliability standards. Ensures compliance with established quality and environmental standards.

  • Assist with other projects as assigned by the Superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position is responsible for overseeing the Rolling Mill's on-shift supervisors, who each have a crew of 8-10 union-represented employees reporting to them.

This position reports to the Rolling Mill Superintendent. See the applicable organization charts for all direct and indirect reporting relationships.

Job Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in an office, with frequent need to be in the Rolling Mill. Requires frequent standing and walking in a manufacturing plant, as well as outside.

Standing surfaces include cement, stairs, flat surfaces, and metal grating. A worker in this position will be subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions and manufacturing floor conditions, including working in a non-climate-controlled production building. Potential exposure to all types of weather, dirt, dust (steel), noise, vibrations.

Varying temperatures, including extreme heat. PPE required to be worn in designated areas, including steel-toed safety boots with metatarsal guards, earplugs, safety glasses, gloves, hardhat, and hot coat (when necessary). Position requires use of computer, as well as hand tools when necessary. Vehicle use is not required.

It may frequently require the ability to exert force or to push/pull up to 50 pounds, and/or to lift/carry up to 50 pounds. If over 50 pounds, a lifting device is to be used. Frequent climbing is required while ascending and descending stairs.

Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching when needing to access and/or work on equipment. Frequent reaching to retrieve supplies, equipment, or files/paperwork. May reach up to five percent (5%) of the time at shoulder or waist height while helping in maintenance.

Continual grasping/fingering/feeling when entering data into a computer and when using hand tools. Repetitive motions of the hands/wrists/fingers to perform office duties such as keyboarding, 10-key, telephone dialing, filing of documentation, or operations of copier/fax machine. Some aspects of this position are performed while sitting at a desk.

Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Communication is primarily in person but can also be by phone, email, and virtual meetings. Visual acuity is needed for close detail work.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years rolling experience on a bar, rod, or section mill.

  • Prior leadership experience in a rolling mill preferred, but not required.

  • Trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills shown to resolve rolling mills breakdown issues.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and mathematical aptitude.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of materials and equipment applicable to the rolling mill.
