Overview:
To promote students' use of the engineering design process to develop a robot and innovative problem- solving, including practices and supporting student teams at various local and in-state competitions.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team of middle school students in the design, development, and competition of a robot for the FIRST Robotics Competition.
Work with the team to develop a project plan, including deadlines and deliverables, and ensure that the project stays on track.
Collaborate with other team members, including teachers, mentors, and industry professionals, to ensure the success of the project.
Teach team members engineering principles, programming, and project management skills.
Assist the team in preparing a Business Plan, including financial planning/budget for the season.
Assist team members with writing code to control the robot.
Assist with design and construction of the robot.
Foster a culture of inclusiveness and collaboration, encouraging all team members to contribute their ideas and skills to the project.
Attend and represent the team at local and regional FIRST Robotics competitions.
Supervise the safe and appropriate use of FabLab equipment including 3D printer, laser cutter, heat press, circuit, and other equipment.
Maintain a clean and safe learning environment.
Oversee the Middle School Robotics activities account which includes budgeting, requisitions, purchase orders, purchasing materials, and submitting invoices/receipts for payment.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Ohio educator license or permit or ability to obtain one
Working knowledge of the FIRST Robotics goals
Background suitable for moderating a growing and diverse team of young men and women
Ability to use technology with preference for candidates who are familiar with Google Apps, CAD software, video and picture editing software and/or coding software
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):
Have a working knowledge of the program requirements in order to organize and monitor student completion of required elements
Strong knowledge of applicable curriculum standards
Have a thorough knowledge of all the district policies approved by the Plain Local School District and be responsible for their implementation
Understand the proper administrative line of command and refer all requests and grievances through proper channels
Strong planning, organizational and collaboration skills
Effective public relations skills
Excellent communication skills
Fiscal management skills -- accounting and fee collection
Ability to make informed decisions and resolve problems/concerns as necessary and appropriate
Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents and various community partners.
