Job Description

DLZ currently has an opening for a Civil Engineer - in our Roadway Department in Cleveland , OH.


  • Perform Roadway Engineering and design assignments of a varied nature.

  • Assigned segments of design projects where Roadway Engineering work is to be done; meeting cost and time schedules and production of quality results are primary objectives.

  • Conduct and assist with roadway design including geometrics, typical and cross sections, drainage, and maintenance of traffic elements.

  • Assist with project management activities.

  • Oversee entry-level engineer design activities.

  • Conduct various Traffic Design elements.

  • Participate/prepare construction cost estimates, proposals, and bid evaluations.

  • Prepare client progress reports.

  • Follow established Quality Control procedures on all tasks.

  • Assist in business development within the firm's business development program.

  • Initiate and maintain contact with key professionals and officials of other organizations and companies, maintaining working relationships at all levels.

  • Become an active member in civic/professional activities, societies and organizations.

  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

  • 4 to 10 years' experience in Roadway Engineering

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in Ohio required.

  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience

  • ODOT prequalification's preferred

  • Experience with Civil 3D, Geopak and/or Open Roads Designer, ODOT CDSS

  • Excellent verbal and written skills

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience working on ODOT projects and be enthusiastic in working with other engineers, project managers, and other technical staff assisting with planning, designing, and overseeing civil engineering projects, such as the design of roadways. Responsibilities * Lead the production of project plans, specifications, reports and cost estimates. * Be involved in all project aspects including design/study development and site/field visits during design and construction and work independently. * Efficiently produce quality deliverables while meeting budget and schedules on multiple concurrent projects. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients, and public agencies. * Ability to supervise and mentor entry level staff and be responsible for entry level staff job tasks. * Ability to provide QA/QC on road design projects. * Ability to assist in marketing efforts to pursue future work. #LI-LC1 * B.S. degree in Civil Engineering * 8-10 plus years of roadway, highway, and drainage design experience * Professional Engineer License (Ohio) * Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including Word and Excel. * Experience using computer assisted engineering and design software to prepare engineering and design documents (experience with ORD is a must). * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Must be flexible, well organized, accountable and dependable.
