GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Benefits Supplemental Questions
Supervises and coordinates the work of assigned personnel (may include inmates) performing maintenance, restoration and construction of roadways, drainage systems and related public infrastructure for the Public Works Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned crew; ensures assigned equipment is properly maintained and used; may supervise inmates depending on function of assignment.
Assists in the planning and coordination of the construction and maintenance activities for drainage systems, sidewalks, road restoration, bridges, ditches, sea walls and culverts.
Issues daily work orders for maintenance, restoration and construction of County infrastructure.
Organizes materials, plans sequencing of work orders and assigns tasks to crews.
Ensures and provides instruction or training in cutting of roadway, installation of piping, brush removal, use of tools and equipment.
Operates County vehicles.
Oversees adherence to traffic control signage, device placement and safety regulations.
Coordinates and delivers materials, supplies and equipment to work sites.
Inspects work performed.
Maintains time sheets, work order forms, vehicle maintenance records and accident reports; assists supervisor in the preparation of reports and required documentation per projects.
Participates in all facets of work performed.
Assists in construction and maintenance activities.
Assists in the supervision and work tasks of other County work crews within the Road Department and other County departments.
Maintains both voice and eye contact at all times with inmates under charge to ensure both personal and public protection from potential harm; supervises the use of all tools and equipment used by inmates under charge to protect against the potential for wielding such as a weapon.
Must be able to meet work schedule and attendance standards.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years experience in road maintenance, to include broad experience in all facets of road and drainage systems maintenance, restoration and construction, and operation of heavy and complex trucks and equipment; one (1) year of experience in a lead/supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
May require certification to supervise inmates by the State Department of Corrections within 30 days of hire. Requires a valid, class "B" commercial driver license.
