The job description and criteria based job performance evaluation emphasizes the criteria expected in the performance of the Nursery/NICU Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the care of the neonatal patient.

The RN collaborates with other nurses, physicians, and allied health personnel to ensure efficient and effective work flow of their scheduled shift and a smooth transition to the next shift. The RN is expected to be able to perform the duties of unit secretary and nurse aide as defined in their respective job descriptions and participate in performance improvement activities. The Registered Nurse works closely with the Director, the charge Nurse, members of the Maternal/Child Tract, medical staff, as well as other professional staff, ancillary department members, visitors and families.

Responsible for compliance with overall nursing practice standards of the specialty area (Reports to Department Patient Care Manager)

Responsible for compliance with standards during assigned shift (Reports to Administrative Supervisor)

Uses established principles of delegation and supervision to direct the activities of all licensed and non-licensed care givers and support staff in the delivery of patient care during their assigned shift

Uses independent judgment to ensure optimal delivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resources Desired Qualifications

One or more years in experience desired specialty

National certifications in your specialty preferred


License in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas

BLS required (current at time of hire)/maintained throughout term of employment

NRP required within 3 months of hire and maintained throughout employment once certified.

ACLS preferred.

STABLE required within 1 year of August, 2017 and within 6 months for new hires, maintained throughout employment once certified.

PALS preferred

RNC preferred
