JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision of Chairman of Infection Prevention and Control Committee and Manager of Infection Prevention participates in the execution of SVI infection control program including study, coordination, education, and evaluation of all aspects of hospital functions as related to prevalence of control of infection.


Reviews cultures reports, medical reports and census reports regarding hospital-acquired, as defined by governing bodies, and non-hospital-acquired infections.

Collects data for hospital-acquired and non-hospital-acquired infections.

Makes regular rounds of patient care areas.

Monitors isolation cases.

Maintains patient confidentiality during data collection activities.

Generates appropriate statistics as required by the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.

Assists in review of data for trends and problems concerning infection control.

Assist in submission of written reports concerning monthly surveillance data to the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and other committees as required.

Assist in preparing written reports on investigations of suspected outbreaks and other infection control issues.

Follows up with all suspected outbreaks of infectious diseases.

Report communicable diseases to Health Department as required by regulations.

Serves on Infection Prevention and Control Committee and attends at least 80% of the meetings.

Serves on Safety/Hazardous Waste Committee.

Assists with the OSHA Exposure Control Plan, Disease Specific Manual and other system policies concerning infection control as required.

Assists with walk through in concern with infection control at various facilities connected with SVI at the request of that facility or Administration and gives feed back to facility.

Assists in preparing and performing annual OSHA/Infection Control training at these facilities.

Participates in the planning of continuous education programs on infection control for staff, physician and community.

Presents inservices to all hospital staff covering OSHA, multi-drug resistant isolates and emerging pathogens.

Performs impromptu training concerning infectious disease issues for staff when necessary.

Is available to community organizations seeking information on infectious disease.


Education: Healthcare related Bachelor's Degree (including, but not limited to: RN, MPH, MT, IT)

Experience: Five years related hospital experience; experience in Infection Prevention preferred. CIC Certification within 3 years of employment.

This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, balancing, stopping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in excess of 20-100 pounds of force.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform daily activities. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals), infectious diseases, and may be required to function around prisoners and mental patients.

VIEW JOBS 1/12/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-04-12T00:00 JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Service Line Administrator for the Jack Stephens Heart Institute, the Quality Assurance (QA) Nurse Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and communication and the overall management of nursing quality. Monitors, reports, and coordinates actions related to nursing quality initiatives to promote high quality nursing care. Collaborates with ancillary departments, staff and physicians to promote appropriate patient placement and high quality nursing care. Collaborates with appropriate departments and nursing leadership for development of documentation forms and MD orders. Overall purpose is that of monitoring patient care in the JSHI by analyzing processes and procedures as follows: Review and monitor documentation in cardiology patient records to ensure that such documentation meets regulatory requirements. Monitor input into national databases (PCI and ICD registries, for example) for completeness and correctness Monitor nationally mandated quality metrics such as length of stay, appropriate care for designated cardiac conditions (acute MI, CHF) and identify problems and outliers. Monitor and report adverse patient events Review incident reports Review patient and staff complaints Perform root cause analysis of adverse events, incident reports, patient and staff complaints and identify solutions. Work closely with corresponding medical and nursing and other appropriate director in this regard. Identify safety problems, perform root cause analysis, and identify solutions. PRIMARY CUSTOMERS: Patients, Physicians, Executive Team Leadership, Nursing Leadership, Case Management and all employees. E.Communicates outcome measurements and quality indicator results throughout the organization as needed. 2.MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION A.Collaborates to develop appropriate performance management measures. B.Utilizes data for measuring and improving quality of service and outcomes C.Coordinates and provides data and reports in a manner understandable to the requesting audience. D.Determines when drill-down of data will present useful information to identify areas for potential performance improvement opportunities. E.Identifies and tracks significant outcomes, performance data and compares current practice to research based literature F.Facilitates and supports quality improvement projects 3.LEADERSHIP A.Anticipates challenges and opportunities, addresses issues in an objective manner and responds appropriately to changes in work demands.. B.Interacts positively with staff and other technical/clinical staff to ascertain accuracy and completeness of data submitted into relevant database. Helps maintain data integrity by running queries and analyzing data. C.Maintains database security system (s) to ensure confidentiality of all data. D.Manipulates data to provide ad hoc and other unique reports and responds to requests for information from other departments as well as outside agencies. E.Knowledgeable and remain current on criteria for data collection as set forth by hospital policy, database and professional organizations. F.Assist in determining external benchmarks to identify best practice. 6.COORDINATION A.Determines when drill down of data will present useful information to identify areas for potential performance improvement opportunities. B.Develops a conceptual understanding of all relevant databases and specific data being reported. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelors (BSN) in Nursing, masters degree preferred. Licensed/Registered to practice nursing in State of Arkansas. Experience: 3 years in a Health care related field. One year experience in management, quality assurance work, patient placement and/ or case management, diagnosis coding and familiarity with national data base preferred. Excellent critical thinking skills and a strong background in process management also preferred. Physical Requirements: Tasks require hand/eye coordination, ability to see, hear, smell and speak. Physical activities may include balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, sitting, stooping, use of fingers and repetitive movements. May be required to lift weight up to 50 lbs. and push/pull 100-150 lbs.
