Manages the operation of the nursing unit. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrates expertise in clinical judgment and decision-making
Maintains sound clinical knowledge based on current standards of practice for area of accountability
Advocate, support and role model safe and high quality patient care as evidenced by exceptional patient satisfaction scores, quality indicators, and staff engagement
Assumes accountability for identifying problems and issues, generating and supporting solutions, and anticipating effects of decision
Complete Qstatim event reports timely
Finalize department staff schedules
Participate in patient and staff rounding
Complete verbal and written counseling with staff, including the unit Director and HR as needed
Attend Nurse Practice Counsel
Arrange and participate in staff interviews
Attend and help lead staff meetings
Present and regularly attend Patient Safety Improvement Team 1 meetings
Attend all required task-force meetings
Attend unit process improvement meetings
Participates in development of policies, procedures, and practice standards
Mentors, develops and trains new staff and students
Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI)
Serves a population newborn through geriatric
Other duties as assigned
WORK SCHEDULE:
Core hours Monday - Friday 7:30a-4:30p
Hours and shifts may vary as working alongside the director and attending meetings is required
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Completion of specific unit based and general hospital competencies
Ability to apply the basic principles of nursing
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
Keyboarding skills and basic computer skills
Multi-tasking and prioritization skills

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1 year RN - Charge Nurse experience
Complete all nursing unit certification requirements
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
LICENSURE OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
American Heart Association BLS is required within 30 days of hire.
