Overview

To advocate for and institute the appropriate nursing interventions, according to the Nurse Practice Act of Massachusetts, for all medical needs of assigned program participants focusing on optimal health for all individuals. The RN Supervisor will establish medical protocols and interventions and supervise assigned LPN staff ensuring appropriate LPN nursing interventions, according to the LPN nurse practice act, are followed, job responsibilities are complete, and other assigned tasks. The RN Supervisor bears full responsibility for the quality of the healthcare they, themselves, provide. The RN Supervisor is responsible for each individual to live a safe, enjoyable life in their community with opportunities to learn and to exercise increasing independence and control over their lives. The agency and its employees are responsible to the people we support.

Hours assigned by the Director of Nursing according to program needs. On-Call responsibilities required via agency cell phone. The RN Supervisor may be required to cover LPN shifts when staffing issues occur. The RN Supervisor may be assigned to provide coverage, both in-person, and on-call for any of the other Rolland programs when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and coordinate healthcare services for participants. Institute appropriate follow up and communicate all medical issues to Health Care Providers, Residence Director, Area Director, Director of Nursing, and any other appropriate SHCS staff.

  • Provide supervision and training to assigned nursing staff.

  • Assist in coordinating, and attend, when necessary, annual physical and dental exams, routine screenings, and recommended tests and appointments with specialists.

  • Ensure individuals receive prompt treatment for episodic health conditions.

  • Facilitate effective communication with Health Care Providers to obtain medical information and treatment.

  • Maintain, review, and supervise documentation of all medical interventions and changes affecting the individuals.

  • Maintain current medication and treatment orders according to MAP standards.

  • Review health records to ensure they are maintained according to DDS standards and that necessary documentation is up to date.

  • Ensure that all health-related information is communicated appropriately to all residential and day program staff.

  • Assist in training staff in personal care, positioning, feeding, and proper use of supportive devices.

  • Review ISP's for knowledge of Areas of Life support plans and strategies. Update Health Care Record and provide relevant supporting documents (annual medical assessment/summary, annual physical/dental paperwork, treatment protocols etc.) to Residence Director for annual ISP meetings.

  • Ensure appropriate nursing support by maintaining LPN schedules that meet the needs of the individuals.

  • Review monthly LPN schedule and arrange for coverage for all open shifts.

  • Maintain list of relief LPN's and agency contacts to utilize when necessary to cover open shifts, call outs, or any other unexpected nursing need.

  • Attend and participate in residential staff meetings and provide in-service training of residential staff on medical topics as needed.

  • Maintain regular contact and positive relationship with individuals' family members/guardians to include providing medical status updates, scheduling medical appointments, and acting as a positive liaison between family/guardian and the residential program regarding medical supports.

  • Conduct LPN annual job performance evaluations on schedule and complete all related follow-up tasks.

  • Maintain all required certifications and licensure.

  • Attend in-services, professional conferences, etc. as requested by Director of Nursing.

  • Perform additional duties as required or directed.

  • Be familiar with, and actively promote and adhere to, all Seven Hills Foundation policies and procedures, the site's program specific policies and procedures, and the regulations governing the program.
