ICU - 12 bed unit

Diagnosis: Acute MI, Renal Failure, Anemia/GI Bleed, Sepsis, Cancer, Status Post Cardiac/Respiratory Arrests, Alcohol withdraw, Drug overdose, Pneumonia/Respiratory Failure, ARDS.

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE

The major focus of this position is the supervision of the patient care environment; supporting the care team. Primary customers include the staff, physicians, patients/families and other members of the health care team.

As a member of the leadership team, monitors and maintains clinical standards of care; maintains shift accountability for the assurance of appropriate staffing resources and provision of quality patient care. Acts as and represents Unit leadership when the Nurse Manager is unavailable. Demonstrates knowledge of and delivers care in accordance with the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act.

Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Participates in maintaining staff competencies through education, mentoring and role modeling. Supports the Nurse Manager in interviewing and hiring employees; training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and mentoring/coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Provides direct supervision of personnel practicing on Nursing Units, makes patient care assignments, evaluates assignments, facilitates patient throughput, and directly observes staff performance.

2.Proactively matches existing resources seeking ways to provide patient care that supports staff and maintains a therapeutic environment

3.Monitors productivity and assures that staffing and resources are aligned with patient care needs.

4.Communicates personnel related concerns to Unit Manager.

5.Uses a logical, systematic approach to problems and problem-solving.

6.Key Tasks (to include development, implementation, facilitation, support, collaboration, etc.)

7.Maintains Unit Professional standards.

8.Maintains confidentiality of information of the department.

9.Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.

Required Education for Staff Job Levels:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required, BSN required within 3 years.

Required Licensure and Certifications Position.

Requires a Kentucky/Compact State licensed Registered Nurse.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 4 years RN Experience.

PREFERRED Qualifications BSN and 2 years RN Experience. Charge Nurse experience preferred.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities * Acts as a communication liaison by greeting all internal and external customers to proactively meet service requests and to promote positive customer relations. * Provides patient care under the supervision of licensed staff, Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager, Unit Manager or Director of Nursing in performing electrocardiograph exams, watching monitors for unit patients, informing the RN of significant rhythms and admitting/discharging patients from the monitoring system. * Maintains designated hospital competencies validated by the Competency Based Orientation (CBO) plan. * Demonstrates a strong belief and behaviors consistent with the Saint Joseph Health Mission and Core Values (Reverence, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence). * Complies with safety and emergency procedures. * Complies with organizational policies. * Documents activities consistent with organizational guidelines. * Performs critical/frequent procedures or services. * Provides care/services based on identified needs. * Uses required equipment for providing care/services. * Consults with organizational resources. * Demonstrates professional responsibility as per job classification. * Demonstrates Core Values Guest Relations/Guest Service Standards. * Demonstrates Core Values Based on Behavioral Standards. * Other duties as assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications Required Education for Staff Job Levels High School Diploma or GED Required Licensure and Certifications Certification from an approved nursing assistant course, previous experience as a nurse assistant, or one completed semester of healthcare related clinical experience. BLS from American Heart Association required. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies. Must be able to successfully identify cardiac rhythms within the initial orientation period. PREFERRED Qualifications Previous successful experience with cardiac monitoring. One year of secretarial experience and previous exposure to medical terminology. Be proficient in keyboarding and possess good Windows platform computer skills.
