GENERAL DESCRIPTION/MISSION STATEMENT: A Registered Nurse Supervisor in the Nursing Department, under the direction of the DON, will plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care to ensure quality and efficiency of services while maintaining established standards. Facilitates patient activities based on hand off communication/report at the beginning and end of each shift, insuring tests & procedures are completed, and physician is notified of abnormal results. Proactively coordinates admissions/transfer placements to accommodate maximum census and optimal services, with Staffing Matrix guidelines. Is aware and able to resource all nursing Policies & Procedures. Is knowledgeable and proficiently serves as a clinical resource for questions regarding proper patient care. Assists with clinical procedures. He/she must be adequately prepared by experience and training to care for cases ranging in acuity from non-urgent to life threatening and from minor injuries to major trauma. He/she must demonstrate an ability to cope with extreme emergency situations while displaying calm, and demonstrate a recognition of the value and dignity of the individual without regard to the nature of the illness/injury or the circumstances leading to same.


  • Triage patients according to established guidelines.

  • Assess patients physical and psychosocial needs and implement a plan of care to address the needs.

  • Transcribe/implement physician orders in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Assess patient/significant other education needs and provide instruction as appropriate.

  • Participate in department quality improvement activities.

  • Comply with mandated hospital and department education programs.

  • Accept responsibility for professional growth and development.

  • Support Risk Management and Infection Control programs.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and objectives of the TAMC organization.


  • Performs other work related duties as assigned.


  • Current Maine Registered Nurse License.


Must be available for weekend and shift assignments.

1.Graduate of an approved school of nursing
2.Successful completion of orientation program for specific area assigned.
3.Successful completion of TAMC certification programs as required by employment assignment
4.Certificate in CPR
5.Good interpersonal skills
6.Basic computer skills preferred

The incumbent will provide clinical oversight to the clinical support staff in their designated practice(s) and/or department(s), as well as serve as a resource and liaison to their Primary Care Clinical team to ensure the delivery of consistent and safe patient care. The RN will be responsible for triaging medical issues per policy, managing and prioritizing the provider(s)' desktop communications, facilitating a Team-Based model by effectively communicating with the Primary Care Team and leading daily huddles to help identify and address barriers, discuss daily clinical and process issues, ensure compliance with TAMC/EMHS policies. Also responsible for additional clinical/administrative duties as assigned by leadership. Direct patient care within the RN scope of practice will be performed to maintain clinical competency and as determined by practice needs. The RN will serve as a role model to the clinical staff; utilizing effective communication, consistently adhering to TAMC/EMHS Standards of Behavior and policies; demonstrating safe, competent, and compassionate care to the patient/family. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the provision of nursing care appropriate to the patient population served by the designated practice(s) and/or department(s). 2. Responsible for clinical/administrative duties, including, but not limited to, clinical staff scheduling, oversight of clinical staffs' orientations and education, development of individualized clinical action plans and coaching as needed, staff's annual competencies and evaluations, and fostering staff's professional growth; under the guidance of the Director of Nursing-TAMC Medical Group. 3. Assists the practice manager(s) with the interviewing, hiring, and disciplinary processes. 4. Responsible for the development, implementation, revision, monitoring, and reporting of the clinical Performance Improvement activities appropriate to the practice(s)/department(s). 5. Will be an active participant on the Policy and Procedure committee; utilizing evidenced-based-practice to improve patient care, practice flow, and meet regulatory requirements essential to achieve a consistently high standard of patient care. 6. Responsible for ensuring the clinical environment is in compliance with JCAHO and Maine state regulations. 7. Responsible for identifying the need for, supporting, and assisting in the development/administration of continued education for clinical support staff. Also recognizes the importance of professional development and growth for self; seeking out appropriate clinical/leadership educational opportunities. 8. Comply with all mandatory educational offerings, Healthstream assignments, and attend all meetings as scheduled (unless excused by practice manager and/or Director of Nursing). 9. Role model commitment to the philosophy and objectives of TAMC's Mission, Vision, Strategic Plan, and Service Excellence 10. Serves as a resource to the Primary Care clinical support staff to ensure that consistent, safe, and efficient patient care is delivered. Acts as a liaison between MA/LPN's and providers to ensure the consistent/safe delivery of patient care. Also ensures effective communication is occurring between the Primary Care Team, as well as the patient/family. 11. Ensures that medications are administered safely and only by competent clinical support staff as ordered by the provider and consistent with TAMC's policies and protocols. 12. Triages medical issues per policy and coordinates with physicians and/or clinical support staff to ensure procedures are followed appropriately when dealing with patient medical issues. 13. Collaborates with providers regarding medication management, i.e., opioids, anti-coagulants. 14. Works in collaboration with Clinical and Administrative Practice Leadership to resolve identified patient issues and/or concerns. 15. Monitors provider's desktop; handles items that appropriately meet JPP standards. Prioritizes provider desktop and communicates critical messages/results with provider within an appropriate timeframe. 16. Ensures that ancillary testing ordered by provider is completed and follows-up with patient and/or provider as appropriate, i.e. abnormal test results, results not received, etc. 17. Huddles daily with the RN's assigned clinical support staff team; encouraging staff to effectively communicate concerns, provide real-time education, and ensure that the clinical environment is maintained appropriately.
