Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Quality and Outcomes Management, the position is responsible for providing leadership for all staff that provide care to the acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and acute stroke patients in all aspects of care. The coordinator will assist in planning, development, and performance improvement activities related to ACS and stroke prevention. Participates in the development and implementation of service line components and serves as liaison with community agencies and accrediting bodies.

Essential Functions

. Coordinates activities related to Chest Pain Center Accreditation.

2.Coordinates activities related to Stroke Center Certification.

3.Performs daily surveillance activities.

4.Reports communicable and contagious diseases to the public health department.

5.Maintains current technical/functional knowledge in the profession and industry

6.Supports policies and procedures

Specialty-Specific Competencies

7.Assist and recommend protocols and guidelines for the best practice treatment of the patients across the continuum of care.

8.Oversees the tracking process for data related to the throughput of the cardiac/stroke patients and provides data to the applicable Chest Pain Committee and Stroke Committee to initiate changes as appropriate to improve outcomes.

9.Serves as the Chair of the Chest Pain Committee and Stroke Committee.



  1. Works in a collegial manner with the Chest Pain Medical Director and Stroke Medical Director to ensure continuity in the care of all the cardiac and stroke patients and quality outcomes.

  2. Participates in the development of strategic plans for the growth of the Cardiovascular Service line.

  3. Works closely with Emergency Medical and Dispatch Services to ensure optimal continuity of care, from pre-hospital to hospital.

  4. Educate nursing and ancillary staff on the best practices in the treatment of ACS, AMI, and stroke patients. Develop and educate all new employees on the mission and vision of the facility related to Chest Pain and Stroke accreditation.

  5. Works closely with quality staff to ensure metrics are in place to show continuous improvement in the care of the ACS and CVA patients for registry data reporting.

  6. Act as a resource internally and in the community regarding educating others about ACS and CVA patients.

  7. Represents the hospital at a local level related to best practices for ACS and CVA patients.

  8. Assures compliance with all TJC and other applicable regulatory agency guidelines. Coordinates all on-site certification visits.

  9. Performs and documents surveillance activities and results.

  10. Documents and reports exposures and communicable diseases.

  11. Assesses documentation and reviews records related to infection prevention and control compliance.

  12. Collaborates with medical staff in reporting and resolving infection issues.

Minimum Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is Required

Two years of college is Required

  • Associate's degree

Bachelor's degree is Preferred

Required License/Certifications: Current NC or multistate RN licensure is required and BLS and ACLS certification is required and provided. Stroke Care Nursing certification is preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

Required Skills: 3-5 years of professional nursing experience required in the direct care of the ACS and/or CVA patient in the ED, Cath Lab, CCU, or Telemetry unit.

Ability to facilitate performance improvement initiatives, enter and manage data, and create reports and documentation.
