Summary

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • The RN Specialty responsible for the quality of the care provided to patients during their shift. Functions as care coordinator.

  • Maintains high standards of patient care:

o Participates, evaluates and reports PI Plan.

o Accountable for staff guidance through PI plan.

  • Promotes high standards in Human Resources:

  • Rewards unit staff through awards and recognition.

  • Assists with the evaluation of staff.

  • Responsible for staff discipline while on duty.

  • The Team leader is responsible for resource management within the department:

  • Meets professional requirements in a timely manner and is attentive to detail:

o Patient Assignments

o Promotes adherence to quality initiatives.

  • Risk management

  • Plans activities in an organized, accountable manner:

  • Plans patient care in an organized, accountable manner.

  • Evaluates patient care outcome.

  • Acts as a professional role model by actively participating in patient care.

  • Leads patient care team on designated shift.

  • Completes leadership rounds.

  • Attempts to create improved patient and staff conditions through creativity and innovativeness in coordinating patient care.

  • Shows concern for effective use of resources and equipment.

  • Involves unit staff in planning.

  • Responds positively to changing circumstances.

  • Coordinates accurate calculation of patient acuity and workload (staffing) data. Makes assignments accordingly.

  • Monitors clinical conditions.

  • Displays confidence and effectiveness in leadership role.

  • Remains visible in the department to physicians and staff members.

  • Allocates resources to keep continuous flow of patient care.

  • Maintains knowledge of patients within the department and delegates duties to enhance patient flow.

  • Supports and promotes patient satisfaction goals.

  • Rounds on patients to enhance patient satisfaction.

  • Promotes teamwork and monitors staff members (work performance) output, offering solutions to improve performance.

  • Conferences/coaches staff members who require redirection, (collaborates with Director/Clinical Supervisor as needed). Documents actions taken.

  • Makes patient/room assignments when on duty.

  • Monitors that PI checks are performed by assigned team members.

  • Will be a responsible nurse advocate for patients and patients' families during crisis situation.

  • The Team Leader is responsible for upholding Leadership Standard in the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Maintains cost effectiveness in providing patient care. 2. Participates in problem solving and implementation of plans for departmental improvement. 3. Reports any suggestions for positive changes or recommendations within the scope of the nursing function and in view of existing policies and procedures to charge nurse and unit manager. 4. Demonstrates a proactive attitude; seeks to remedy situations before a mistake is made. 5. Is able to prioritize basic duties with no assistance. 6. Completes all assigned duties in a timely manner. 7. Consistently demonstrates a self-directed, mature, disciplined approach to completing work duties. 8. Makes every attempt to complete assigned duties; requires no "wake-up" time. 9. Demonstrates responsibility through responsiveness to others and competent follow-up matters requiring additional attention; reports incomplete work to the charge nurse. 10. Attends to personal health affairs so as not to interfere with the work schedule; maintains emotional and mental stability necessary for the successful performance of all job duties. 11. Employee demonstrates consistent and appropriate use of engineering controls, work practice controls, work practice controls and personal protective equipment as directed by OSHA's Blood borne Pathogen Standard. 12. On a daily basis, demonstrates attention to patient, family and visitors' needs, and exemplifies LGH's mission statement. 13. Assist patients with change of position and ambulation when necessary. 14. Ability to skillfully assist physicians with all procedures. 15. Ability to skillfully assist nurses with all nursing tasks and procedures. 16. Competency in all skills and duties as well as operation and maintenance of equipment and instruments which are required on a daily basis. 17. Cleanliness with all work and break areas exhibited. 18. Satisfactorily completes all required competencies, skills checklists, and required testing during designated orientation period. 19. Satisfactorily maintains and renews yearly competencies. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: 1. High School Graduate or GED required. 2. Previous ERT or equivalent experience preferred. 3. Must maintain current BLS Certification.
