RN Research Neurosciences Service Line

Performs clinical and administrative functions in support of the design, implementation, and management of clinical research projects.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists with designing and procuring funding for new study protocols. Assists with the preparation, submission and management of internal/external compliance documentation at all stages of the research project.

  • Assists with the selection, education, testing and monitoring of research project patients.

  • Collaborates with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity and efficacy of study protocols and patient care. Documents patient/study results using departmental information systems and applications. Communicates patient/study results on an on-going basis to research team.

  • Monitors the quality assurance process. Participates in QA/QI initiatives to ensure the department's compliance with applicable standards of care and regulatory requirements.

Requirements (education, licensures, certification):

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered/Professional Nursing program if less than 3 years' experience. BSN is required for new hires or to be attained within three years of acceptance of the position.

  • An unrestricted, CO RN license (or a compact RN license and obtain a CO RN license within 90 days of start date).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course).


  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

The Life Sciences Research Center (LSRC) supports both faculty and cadet life sciences research efforts. The LSRC is a multidisciplinary center with research in a variety of areas to include: biomedical, Biosystems, and human health/performance. Biomedical research involves developing methods for detecting bacterial agents which can activate/deactivate avian flu viruses, and interrogating select cell lines for microbiome research. Biosystems is investigating extremophile organisms as a source of alternative energy production for bio sensing capabilities. The Human Performance Laboratory conducts research on mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Aleut Aerospace Engineering is a certified 8(a) Alaska Native Corporation that manages the USAFA Advisory and Assistance Services Contract to provide professional technical support for a wide variety of activities. Aleut's mission mirrors that of USAFA, with an integrity-centric team focused on delivery of exceptional solutions, service, and value. Aleut Aerospace Engineering is currently searching for Research Technician to support a team of researchers in conjunction with other technical staff. Please note that this position is part-time, requiring approximately 24 hours per week. Position responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: * Provide standard laboratory technical support in the area of laboratory-based tasks, which include sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing results in biological sciences * Adhere to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines including: AFI-90-821 dated January 2014, and DFB OI 91-1: Chemical Hygiene Plan dated May 2014 * Assist research scientists and mentor cadet investigators with lab protocols, equipment use in experiments, data recording/collection and scientific records * Prepare lab equipment, reagents, solutions and other experimental apparatus and maintaining general laboratory readiness * Operate instruments and test hardware including but not limited to: microplate readers, gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) with total organic carbon analysis, medium pressure liquid chromatography (MPLC), incubator readers, real time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) instrumentation systems, gel electrophoresis equipment, flow cytometer, bioreactors, environmental growth chambers, clean benches, autoclaves, incubators, temperature loggers, ovens, light microscopes and fuel cells * Perform light and photographic microscopy * Perform basic lab tasks such as phlebotomy and capillary draws * Prepare standard volumetric reagents and solutions for the lab personnel to use or combine with samples by following pre-established lab protocols, procedures or standardized formulas * Assist in recording quantity and quality of characteristics or materials of a sample, identify erroneous outcomes and reporting them immediately if they occur, and ensuring all sampling methodologies or lab processes are well controlled and documented * Ensure the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced.
