JOB TITLE: Infection Control Nurse

A registered nurse who assists in the overall responsibility for infection control and clinical epidemiology services with Northwest Texas Healthcare System. Interfaces with all levels of personnel and departments to facilitate achievement of defined institutional and program objectives.

Collaborates with other members of the Quality Management department to address clinical performance measurement issues. Participates as a member of the Infectious Disease Team.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Demonstrates initiative in the coordination of clinical epidemiology services by facilitating effective surveillance, prevention, and control of hospital acquired and other designated infections throughout NWTHS. Provides assistance and services within the scope of care to the laboratory and the Public Health Department by reporting to the appropriate entity identified disease processes within designated timeframes. Responsible for participating and in Performance Improvement activities that are directly and or indirectly related to this scope of care.

Assists with the epidemiology program functions in relation to the UHS and NWTHS mission, vision, strategic goals, and values. Demonstrates consistency in compliance with TJC's infection control standards, as well as other regulatory agency requirements, through the application of valid clinical epidemiology principles, provision of appropriate consultative and educational input, and promotion of service excellence standards.

Additionally serves as a member on the Infectious Disease team. Works closely with the Epidemiology Coordinator. Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team both within the facility and within the community.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required:

• Valid Texas professional nursing license.

• Certified in Infection Control (CIC) within 6 months of eligibility. Continuing certification required.

• Bachelor of Science degree strongly preferred.

• Experience in clinical monitoring programs preferred.

• Three years' experience in acute care hospital setting required.

• Strong verbal and written skills in English.

• Experience with quality teams, medication use evaluation, and other performance measurement systems desirable.
