Graduated with an associates or bachelor's degree in nursing. Previous O.R. and RN experience preferred.

Current licensure in State of Alabama as a Registered Nurse. Good verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills, and time management skills. Knows sterile technique.

Ability to form effective working relationships with hospital staff, physicians, and patients. Proficiency with clinical nursing tasks. Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions.

Visual and hearing acuity. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to assist in lifting, pushing and pulling patients/equipment involving a minimum of 50 pounds.

Manual dexterity necessary to manipulate small sutures/instruments and to manipulate patient care equipment. Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods. Ability to meet the attendance requirements of the job.

The First Assistant/Registered Nurse functions under the supervision of a physician and performs delegated functions such as planning, preparing and setting up for cases, and managing supplies and equipment. The work that is performed is done under the established policies and procedures of the institution and according to the experience and scope of educational requirements of the individual and applicable legal guidelines.

The RN will be expected to anticipate the needs of the patient and physician and make decisions within the scope of their practice. The Registered Nurse responsibilities pertain to the clinical responsibilities required for direct preoperative and postoperative patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Ensures continual delivery of high-quality nursing care * Adopts and implements innovative nursing practices to improve the facility * Maintains a healthy, collaborative team environment * Mentors/trains other nursing staff, as needed * Promotes positive customer relations within the facilities * Oversees safety surveillance and task related responsibilities that have been delegated to others to ensure effective and desired results * Oversees infection control surveillance and task related responsibilities that have been delegated to others to ensure effective and desired results * Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records, as required * Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies * Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods * Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed * Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans * Monitors all aspects of patient care * Deals compassionately, professionally, and courteously with patients, their families, physicians, and fellow employees * Follows safety and infection control procedures * Adheres to all federal, state, and nursing regulations and protocols, including but limited to patient safety procedures such as: * Verification of correct patient, correct procedure, correct time * Assessing for contraindications such as oral anticoagulant therapy or comorbidities/acute diagnoses that would render patient ineligible for procedure * Identifies an emergency situation and is able to appropriately intervene * Understands and administers regulatory policies (i.e.: Joint Commission/AAAHC, CDC, State, etc.) * Deploys, monitors, and ensures that the facilities operational processes are appropriately integrated within the facilitys quality programs * Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, Company and other regulatory standards * Assists with supply ordering, as needed * Provides clinical support for procedures * Maintains accurate, detailed reports and records * Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients' conditions * Records patients' medical information and vital signs * Ensures history and physicals are complete on each patient, by the provider, prior to procedures * Consults and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans * Instructs individuals, families and others on topics such as health education, disease prevention and develop health improvement programs * Informs physician of patient's condition before, during and after procedures * Acts as a liaison between the physician and the patient and patients family or support person(s) * Maintains the role of patient advocate * Ensures, provides and explains discharge instructions to all patients * Ensures physician has cleared patient for discharge prior to discharging the patient * Assists in the stocking and inventory of the clinical area * Establishes IV access for all applicable patients * Ensures all applicable clinical staff and guests wear radiation badges * Maintains and stores radiation safety equipment * Conducts annual apron and thyroid shield inspections * Conducts safety drills, as required * Conducts daily inventory of and ensures policies and procedures are followed for controlled substances * As assigned, ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques * Orders/requests supplies as needed * Checks work e-mail on a regular basis throughout the workday * Participate in and complete all required trainings and in-services * Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: * Associates Degree in Nursing OR a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate from an accredited program. * Must possess and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the state in which the employee practices or must hold a nursing license within a compact eligible state.
