Job Description: UP Health System - Bell
Adheres to nursingservice behavior standards and is responsible for coordination of patient carein the ambulatory outpatient area. In collaboration with the Pre-op SurgicalServices Coordinator, the RN, determines and prepares for specific patientneeds, develops and updates ambulatory outpatient policies and procedures anddetermines and helps to develop patient teaching needs.
Followsestablished policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, andsensitivity to confidential information.
Willing and ableto demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
Review entireoutpatient surgery schedule upon arrival for shift and prepare patientinformation to assure uninterrupted flow of patients.
Coordinate patientcare and caregivers (including self).
Assure thatmedications (including special medications/antibiotics), supplies and equipmentare stocked, ready and available.
Communicatesspecial patient/procedure needs to and from surgeons, anesthesia andpreoperative staff.
Reviews charts,pre-operatively, to insure completion with required documentation and surgicalpermit in place.
Identifies patientusing two approved forms of identification.
Confirms scheduledsurgical procedure with patient, family, History and Physical, and schedulingsheet.
Reports anydiscrepancies of planned surgical procedure to surgeon, circulating nurse, andnurse manager.
Reviews allpatient labs and tests (pre-operative) and reports any abnormal results toanesthesia and /or surgeon.
Review charts(post procedure and recovery) for completeness and compliance.
Maintains workingknowledge of all Phase I and Phase II recovery and discharge requirements fordepartment.
Monitors,assesses, and documents all Phase I and Phase II requirements of patient caseappropriately.
Educates patienton surgical procedure, discharge instructions, and assesses patient and familyunderstanding.
Review charges forcompleteness and accuracy.
Assure requireddaily, weekly and monthly checks are completed.
Review checklistsfor accu-check, refrigeration temperatures and laser cleaning.
Assure allsupplies, including dietary supplies and linen inventory, are maintained.
Review ambulatorystaff breaks and lunches to assure policy compliance.
Review next daysschedule with Pre-op Surgical Coordinator and Department Manager- SurgicalServices.
Maintains a strongworking knowledge of anatomy and surgical procedures which is necessary foreducating patients.
Assist withpediatric and other tours of the department.
Keep DepartmentManager/Charge person advised when arriving or leaving.
Maintain workareas in a well-organized and neat manner.
Cleans equipment,rooms, and beds without assistance of housekeeping.
Assist withorientation and monitoring of students and new employees.
Participates inPerformance Improvement and quality projects for the department includingpost-operative patient phone calls, chart audits regarding surgical care andpeer audits.
Demonstratesawareness of self responsibility and accountability for personal professionalgrowth.
Demonstrates agespecific competency for ambulatory patient population.
Maintainsconfidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Support theculture of service excellence throughout the organization.

Performs otherrelated duties as assigned or requested.
Completes annualeducational requirements.

Minimum Education Graduate of a school of nursing
Preferred:Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Pals recommended
Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills,decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be ableto work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS required within 1 year of hire indepartment for full-time and part-time employees.
Preferred forcontingent staff, but not required. PALS Recommended
Licenses: Currentlicense to practice as an RN in the State of Michigan
