Responsibilities
General Purpose:
Performs responsibilities of the Thoracic Surgery Data Manager for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) clinical database including selection, abstraction, follow-up and submission of accurate and reliable data. Responsible for analysis, summary and disribution of both raw and risk adjusted data; organize and participate in new and ongoing quality assurance/performance improvement projects. Serve as Quality Assurance Liaison (QAL) for the Thoracic Surgery Division.
Responsibilities:
Thoracic STS Data Manager: accurately complete tasks including selection, data collection, time management, data quality checks, follow up and submission of data in support of participation in the STS Thoracic Surgery Database. Comprehensive chart review through expert navigation of electronic medical record. Semiannual data harvest to STS.
Analyze, summarize and distribute both raw and risk adjusted data by preparing reports utilizing the Thoracic STS database as requested. Analyze patient outcomes to identify patterns and trends in care delivery in order to facilitate quality initiatives for surgical patients. Utilize evidence-based practice and quality principles to guide project management and develop quality assurance/performance improvement projects.
Serves as Division quality assurance liaison (QAL): support Thoracic Surgery division quality program with data summaries, quality audits, quality assurance reviews, annual QA/PI plan revisions and other tasks as identified. Attend and facilitate regular QA meetings.
Develops and maintains status as Thoracic STS database expert by attending database and vendor conference calls as well as attending national data manager meeting. Proactively engage in educational opportunities.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing and 4 years clinical nursing experience, including 1 year of experience with clinical chart review, monitoring of clinical data and process improvement
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Clinical experience in perioperative nursing, inpatient surgical unit, or surgical clinic
Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience
Ability to interact with all members of associated team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner
Detail oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills and ability to work independently under general guidance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), software/web applications, and electronic medical record
Statistical knowledge preferred
Clinical chart review and abstraction experience preferred.
Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QA/PI) experience preferred
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in NYS upon hire required

Pay Range
Pay Range: $69,326 - $90,126 Annually
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
