The Department of Public Safety is the largest state agency with 26,000 employees. If you are looking for a rewarding career, please consider the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner opportunity with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement. This position is located at Central Prison Health Complex (CPHC), Raleigh, NC, Wake County. CPHC is a close-custody prison housing male offenders. Central Prison serves as the hub for healthcare for the male inmate population. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 1318 offenders. The primary purpose of CPHC is to provide inpatient treatment for patients, using evidenced based medical practices, therapy programs, surgical Services, post-operative care, etc. that will enable the offender patients to be returned to their parent facility as quickly as possible.Position is assigned to provide psychiatric/mental health care to the inmate population in North Carolina at Central Prison Healthcare Complex involving patient assessments, ordering labs, prescribing psychiatric medications, and overseeing the inpatient and /or outpatient mental health care. Patients are required to obtain individualized treatment plans from this provider.Duties for this position include but are not limited to: * Document in the electronic medical record (HERO) and perform clinical duties under the supervision of a physician (psychiatrist). * Must have knowledge of psychopharmacology, the study of indicators, actions, risks, and side effects of psychiatric drugs used independently and in combination with others drugs. * Will be asked to participate in Policy Development, staff meetings, projects, administrative functions and other duties as assigned. Position will be supervised by a Licensed Physician/Psychiatrist. Note to Current State Employees: The Salary Grade for this position is MG00. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board.
