Pay: $1/hr increase to base rate for any hours specifically assigned to be a Preceptor.

Job Overview:

Promotes a professional, supportive environment to effectively facilitate and manage the orientation of new but experienced staff with assistance from the Department Director and Department Educator. Provides orientation to the new staff per established requirements. Documents completion of competencies in a timely manner. Supports the AVH Core Values by striving for excellence in patient care, professional development, interdepartmental relations, time management, and continuous quality improvement.

Primary Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with the Department Director, Department Educator, and Staff Development Specialists to ensure successful and timely completion of new staff orientation.

  • Assesses the new staff's level of competence to identify learning needs and develop a customized learning plan. Develops strategies to enhance learning.

  • Implements department education curriculum while providing guidance for problem solving and clinical judgment.

  • Demonstrates leadership, critical thinking, and excellent conflict resolution skills.

  • Evaluates ongoing competence of new staff and provides timely, continuous, constructive, performance feedback.

  • Contributes to department orientation revisions on an annual basis.

  • Participates in initial and annual preceptor training. Contributes feedback toward preceptor program success.

  • Maintains competency and actively works in primary role within the department. Recognized as a role model among peers.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Registered nurse with at least 2 years of clinical experience in the area where providing preceptorship

  • Proven record of exceptional performance in primary role within the department

  • Current and unrestricted license and/or certifications as required for primary role
