  • The ED Clinical Coordinator possesses the experience, knowledge, abilities, and willingness to act as a clinical resource person while providing operational coordination and professional leadership. The ED Clinical Coordinator assists the Director of Emergency Department in holding department staff accountable for quality, customer relations, risk reduction, and process improvement initiatives. Coordinates patient care assignments based on patient need and staff competency levels. Organizes patient flow; flexes staff up or down in order to meet patient needs and the department financial budgets. Demonstrates strong clinical skills necessary to support the Emergency Department Staff and Physicians in the care of the patients of all ages and classifications and acts as the RN Navigator to ensure the patients are admitted, transferred or referred to the clinic in a timely manner.

Education and Qualifications

  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: At least two year Registered Nurse experience within the last 24 months and acute/critical experience within the last 12 months
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Basic computer skills required
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.
  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Current license as a Registered Nurse by the State of California.
  • LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: NRP, TNCC, and CEN encouraged and recommended.
  • QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to correctly calculate medication doses.
  • QUALIFICATIONS: ability to read and interpret documents such as physician orders, patient care plans, Rx and chemical labels, etc. Ability to verbally communicate with patients of all ages and backgrounds.

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (b): This job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will occasionally pull, lift, transfer, or push a patient side to side, to a sitting position, to a standing position, or laterally. The employee must demonstrate a pull lift of 50 pounds from the floor.
  • POTENTIAL EXPOSURE TO BLOOD & BODY FLUIDS: Category 1 for potential exposure to blood/body fluids. (Requires the performance of procedures or other tasks in the work routine that involve an inherent potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them. Protective measures should be used while engaged in Category 1 tasks with exposure potential.)

Job Roles

RN, Nurse Lead (AHCL)

  • Accepts responsibility and continually promotes patient satisfaction and service outcomes, i.e., AIDET; White Boards; Discharge Phone Calls.

  • Adheres to the Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct and all other hospital policies.

  • AGES SERVED (b): Child, Adolescent, Adult/Geriatric. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients/individuals served. Demonstrates and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients/individuals status and interpret relative to his age-specific needs, and to provide the care/service needed.

  • Assists Director of Emergency Department in identification of both capital needs

  • (with justification) and non-capital needs that arise with patient care.

  • Assists in controlling overtime, agency usage, and supplies.

  • Assists in maintaining appropriate staffing assignments for current and upcoming shift using budgeted guidelines. Flexes staff daily as needed to meet the departmental budget.

  • Assists with orientation, competencies, and continuing education for staff. Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings and participates in relevant staff education during meetings.

  • Exhibits excellent critical thinking and time management skills.

  • Expedites throughput of patients in order to meet overall LOS, quality and resource utilization goals.

  • Fulfills responsibility to organization by adhering to its philosophy, mission and policies and procedures.

  • Instructs staff when needed regarding clinical interventions and department interventions.

  • Investigates patient complaints and provides follow up with incident reports and suggestions for corrective measures, in collaboration with the Director of Emergency services.

  • Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.

  • Reviews all issues of staff noncompliance and department disruptions in collaboration with the Director of Emergency Department.

  • Role model clinical excellence and demonstrates current technical skills applicable to appropriate patient populations.

  • Supports timely ED flow by supporting and ensuring that direct bedding and vertical treatment is utilized with patients.

  • Utilizes patient acuity, staff experience and education to make patient care assignments.

  • Works closely with the Director of Emergency Department to ensure all department specific initiatives, performance goals and objectives are accomplished and maintained.

  • Works with staff to set and achieve annual hospital and unit specific goals.

  • Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
