This position is a time limited educational experience to introduce the new graduate registered nurse to nursing practice from multiple perspectives through didactic, clinical and experiential opportunities. Participates in all didactic sessions as part of the role, as well as learning to participate in the planning, delivery and management of direct patient care utilizing the nursing process and adhering to the standards of nursing practice.
Program Description: The New Graduate Nurse Orientation Program is designed for the newly graduated nurse who has successfully passed the NCLEX exam and has never worked as a nurse or who has less than 9 months of experience as an RN. Over the course of the orientation, the new graduate RN will participate in educational sessions designed to support the development of critical thinking, professional practice behaviors, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, clinical judgment and knowledge augmentation in a high-tech, acute care environment. New graduates are partnered with preceptors who have experience in practice and are trained in the Vermont Nursing Internship Program and Competency Outcomes and Performance Assessment (VNIP/COPA) preceptor models. New RN graduates will orient on one unit and will be expected to work 40 hours per week on a varying schedule that may include evening and night shifts for the length of the program.

Candidates must have a valid Massachusetts RN license by time of Start Date.The new graduate nurse may apply for this position prior to completing license requirements but will be unable to begin work until license is obtained.
Candidates must have graduated within the last 9 months and can only have worked as an RN in any capacity no more than within the last 9 months of beginning of program start.
Graduated from an accredited BSN or ADN program. Graduates with a ADN will need to complete BSN within 5 years of employment.
Applicants must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Candidates must provide three letters of recommendation; one must be from nursing faculty who is able to share observations about academic performance, second must be from a nursing faculty who is able to share observations about clinical performance, and third may be a recommendation of your choosing (Ex. manager, colleague, preceptor).
Candidates must include a clinical narrative not longer than 1,000 words describing the following:

There will be a full-time commitment required to participate in this program.
