The Beverly PACU consists of 15 PACU bays, 10 Pre-op holding bays, and 6 Surgical Day Care bays. We provide a wide range of specialties including; orthopedics, GYN, general, vascular, thoracic, spine, pediatrics, cysto, and ENT.
Job Description:
Residency for RN New Graduate
Month 1: Medical Surgical Post Operative Unit
Goals: Develop assessment skills, medication management, admission, discharges, time management, delegation, documentation
Months 2 and 3:Pre-admission Testing / Pre-op Holding
Week 1:
Day 1: Didactic (combination of NM, Educator, TLs and Preceptors):
Review ASPAN PACU CBO
Review ASPAN Standards
Review department specific policies and procedures
Tour of department / meet and greet with PACU staff
Get schedule
Day 2: Shadow with RN in Pre-op holding
Day 3: Shadow with RN in PACU
Day 4: Shadow with RN in Surgical Day Care (SDC)
Week 2: Pre-Admission Testing
Safety in the Peri anesthesia Setting
Complete Written Competency Test
Pre-Admission Testing:
Pre anesthesia Care
Weeks 3-8: Pre-op Holding
Pre anesthesia Care: Day of Surgery Preparation
Complete Written Competency Test
Dedicated didactic time
Months 4 and 5: PACU / CCU (each week RN will spend 2 shifts in PACU and 2 shifts in CCU)
Month 6: PACU
RN takes patient assignment in PACU with preceptor as resource (preceptor can take 1 patient)
Completes ACLS and PALS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
BLS required
MA RN required
BSN preferred
SCHEDULE - During the residency, the schedule may be rotating Day/Evening. After 6 months of completing this program, you would transition into a position currently available. On call is required.
