Under the general supervision of the Director of Emergency Department, the ED Nursing Supervisor/ Manager assumes responsibility for all functions in the Emergency Department. In collaboration with the Director and members of the medical staff, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of quality of patient care services provided in the department by all levels of practitioners. The ED Nursing Supervisor/ Manager in the Emergency Department:

A. Initiates, guides, and directs the coordination of all Emergency Department functions.

B. Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff.

C. Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing care provided in the Emergency Department.

D. Makes decisions regarding activities within the department based on Hospital

Administrative Standards, Human Resource Standards, Department of Nursing Standards, and Emergency Department Standards with collaboration with the Director in unusual situations.Persons in this category are responsible for consideration of developmental issues of patients in each of in each of the following ages identified:

x Infancy (birth to 1 yr) __x__Adolescent (12yrs to 18 yrs)

__x__Toddlers (1yr to 3 yrs) __x__Young Adult (18 yrs to 44 yrs) __x__Preschool ( 3 yrs to 5 yrs) __x__Middle Age (45 yrs to 65 yrs)

__x__School Child (5 yrs to 12 yrs) __x__Older Adult (65 yrs and over)

This position may from time to time require that patients be cared for outside the normal age group. In this event the person should consult available resources to provide appropriate care.

IV. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A. Current licensure in the State of Texas as a Registered nurse.

B. Bachelor's Degree preferred

C. Minimum of three years clinical experience in the Emergency Nursing with an emphasis on leadership and management.

D. Current verification of competency in BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC required. CEN preferred

All lab work and imaging (digital x-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound) will be performed and processed on-site to expedite care. Our Registered Nurses have access to a variety of resources to help you reach your goals including: * A comprehensive orientation process * Valuable mentorship from specialty specific educators * Leadership development programs * State-of-the-art units equipped with the latest technologies in patient care Registered Nurse (RN) Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED) What you will do in this role: * Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for assigned patient * Meeting the Standards of Practice for the Emergency Department (ED) and managing all assigned personnel, supplies and equipment * Participate in activities to plan, measure, assess and improve the quality of patient care * Routinely provides triage assessment for patients presenting for treatment * Routinely performs venipunctures for obtaining specimens for lab tests * Routinely provides intervention in emergency, life-threatening situations * Assumes the responsibility of charging the department, as needed Qualifications: * ADN required; BSN enrolled * 2 years Emergency (ED) experience * Current Texas State RN license or compact license * Current Healthcare Provider BLS issued by the American Heart Association required * EKG certification or successful challenge of EKG exam * ACLS and PALS certification within 6 months of hire * TNCC certification required within 18 months of hire * CEN certification encouraged * NIHSS certification within 6 months of hire, unless currently certified then needs to be maintained. * Two acute stroke educational activities attended annually Healthcare Corporation of America (HCA) is a community of 94,000 Registered Nurses and 38,000 active physician partners.
