Interviews and observes patients in order to assess needs and to assit in developing semi-complex patient care plans. Administers medications and assists providers in administering treatments and diagnostic tests.

Monitors intravenous therapeutic treatments. Takes vital signs and evaluates patient care. Reports significant changes in patients conditions or affect to appropriate providers.

Assists with or implements corrective measures as directed during adverse patient development. Maintains current, accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care. Responds to patient inquiries, complaints and routine service requests.

Attends in-service training and continuing education program. Performs related nursing duties as assigned.

The Technician II will complete all of the principal responsibilities and tasks of the pharmacy technician, but will additionally serve as an educational resource to the Technician I. The Technician II will serve as a role model for the Technician I and support their professional growth. The Technician II will participate in pharmacy projects as assigned. Responsibilities/Tasks * Assists area manager in determining PAR levels and maintaining inventory for the pharmacy satellite. * Works with pharmacy manager to complete monthly audits/quality ensurance of the pharmacy satellite. * Participates in the interview process and training of new or existing employees. * Assists managers in providing staff evaluation feedback. * Prepares and dispenses medication orders for an assigned patient population (inpatient and outpatient).Retrieves expired medications from all patient care areas and disposes of properly. * Prepares and labels medications for dispensing. This includes but is not limited to: IV medications, oral medications, and controlled substances. * Delivers medications to nursing units and other patient care locations according to departmental procedures. * Maintains appropriate inventory levels of medications and pharmaceuticalsupplies in the Pharmacy department and in-patient care areas (i.e. unit-based cabinets) according to assigned PAR levels. Places satellite orders according to pharmacy satellite daily checklist. * Processes medication recalls when required in accordance with departmental policy and procedure if a Lead Technician is not available. * Participates in the cleanliness, organization and appearance of the department.Responds to telephone requests and provides excellent customer assistance to user departments. Communicates problems to the supervisor or pharmacist for resolution, as necessary. * Ensures that each drug product stocked has a shelf space or bin, that the space or bin is properly identified and placed properly.. Ensures that only one product occupies that space or bin. * Displays constant vigilance in ensuring cleanliness of shelves, bins, counters and cabinets. * Removes stock from cardboard as soon as possible and places in designated bins or shelf locations. Eliminates presence of cardboard containers. * Ensures neat appearance of pharmacy. Files documents, keeps posted notes and announcements off walls and on bulletin board, keeps floors and carpet free of paper and loose medications & supplies. * Observes established department policies, procedures and quality assurance programs, safety, security, environmental and infection control standards. Properly handles hazardous substances by observing and demonstrating proper safety procedures and/or "Universal Precautions," as appropriate. * Assists in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies, such as, Laminar Flow Hoods, biological safety cabinets, computers and printers, packaging equipment and manufacturing equipment.Follows and completes duties as outlined in assigned area responsibility grids and shift checklists. * Contacts Facilities Maintenance, SOSC, or Biomedical Engineering, as needed, to perform more complex maintenance duties. * Thoroughly cleans Laminar Flow Hoods and biological safety cabinets using aseptic technique if applicable to pharmacy satellite (i.e. inpatient satellites), and ensures other technical staff sign-off on the cleaning of the hood. What You Need to Be Successful: * High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. * Maryland BOP registration required. * Two years UMMC pharmacy tech experience required.
