Job Duties
Up to a $25,000 Bonus for Registered Nurses that are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2 years.
$15,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required.
An additional $10,000 retention bonus will be awarded to new hires who are hired after November 9th, 2023. The retention bonus will be paid out one year after hire date and require a one-year written agreement.
Above bouses are available to Registered Nurse I that are new to DBHDS or have not worked for at least one year for Department of Behavior Health Developmental Services (DBHDS).
The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is seeking fresh graduates as an RN I for 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts. Registered Nurses are scheduled to work (2) 12-hour shifts and (2) 8-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shift per week and every other weekend.

Paid Shift Differential:
1st shift weekend $5.50/hr.
2nd shift weekdays $5.50/hr., and weekend/holidays $6.00/hr.
3rd shift weekdays $4.00/hr., and weekend/holidays $7.00/hr.

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by promoting recover, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: eight behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services. CCCA is hiring for the RN I position. RNs for this position will provide age-specific nursing care to child and adolescent psychiatric patients. Work closely with other members of a multidisciplinary treatment team including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other nursing staff in order to provide quality trauma-informed psychiatric care to patients, prioritizing care according to patient acuity, and managing changes in patient behavior and/or physical condition as part of the treatment team.
Specific duties include:
Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, and documenting such care and patients' response in patient charts
Facilitating admission, discharge, and transfer of patients
Administering medications
Providing patient and family education based on identified needs.
Supervising, supporting, and working collaboratively with Direct Care Staff
The successful candidate must be skilled in clinical problem solving and patient management, and able to participate effectively in an interdisciplinary team process. Must demonstrate ability to assess, plan, implement, & evaluate patient care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders, and physical, psychological, & social needs of the psychiatric adolescent or child is essential. Must demonstrate strong and effective verbal and written communication skills, and must be able to effectively work with psychiatric and sometimes aggressive patients.
Bi-lingual abilities desired; Spanish or Sign Language preferred.
CCCA is a 48-bed facility and is Virginia's only public acute care psychiatric hospital for patients 17 and under. Minimum Qualifications
Experience working as a Registered Nurse.
Successfully complete BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO) and other required training upon employment at facility.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication skills, team focused care and professional approach.
Displays the ability to plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders,
and cultural needs of the individual psychiatric patient.
Presents good clinical knowledge and resource to staff.
Experience/Ability to delegate, supervise, evaluate nursing processes to help solve complex problems.
Current, Registered Nurse licensed to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or license eligible; multi-state compact
endorsement is accepted
Additional Considerations
Experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.

Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
