The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing basic nursing care to clinic patients following established standards and practices.


  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow.

  • Escorting patients to exam/procedure rooms. Observes, records and reports patients conditions and reactions to drugs and treatment to providers.

  • Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.

  • Collecting patient history including current medications, allergies, symptoms, etc.

  • Utilizes the nursing process to provide patient care as directed by provider; this may include screenings and administering medications and treatments in accordance with clinical and nursing standards.

  • Prepares equipment and aids providers during treatment, examination and testing of patients and with various procedures as needed.

  • Timely and accurate documentation in patient charts; relaying information & instructions to patient/family. Document all interventions, phone calls, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed, hospital data, etc. in medical record/EMR.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of safe medication administration; administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

  • Answering patient phone calls & messages and acting as a communication liaison between the patient and provider.

  • Collection and handling of lab specimens following established standards and practices. Adhere to infection control safety guidelines, maintaining equipment, instruments and stock supplies.

  • Utilizes electronic referral process to complete requested physician referrals to NCH Healthcare Group specialists and ancillary services.

  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include filing or sending medical records to a patient or referral provider; appointment scheduling.

  • Knows the general condition of the equipment at all times, knows how to operate all equipment required in the course of performing procedures. Documents failures in a timely manner.

  • Knowledgeable about treatments administered and studies performed, as well as any preparation of the patient which may be required prior to the test being performed.

VIEW JOBS 2/21/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-21T00:00 Job Details Associates Degree JOB SUMMARY The Emergency Department RN Shift Supervisor supervises and coordinates quality patient-centered care and for assuring that patient needs including physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional are met in the Emergency Department during their assigned shift. This position participates in unit committee and quality improvement activities. Needs minimal supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – And other duties as assigned in job description. * Dynamic, rapid, and complex decision making to assure that patient safety and ED department flow are maintained at all times by balancing (list not all inclusive) available resources, patient acuity, skill mix of staff, patient surge, and patient volume. * Serves as an expert in ESI triage and collaborates with ED nursing staff and ED physician staff regarding triaging of patients and assigning limited resources of complex pts presenting from EMS as well as walk ins. * Develops plan that includes strategies to attain expected outcomes. * Maintains constant collaboration with the ED physician/PA/NP and ancillary departments assessing their needs and concerns. * Knowledgeable of complex and high risk medical legal situations/ statutes and prepared to address and coordinate the needs of the patients surrounding them that include but are not limited to * EMTALA * Florida Mental health Act of 1971 and Baker Act * Reporting of Elder and Child Abuse and neglect * Coordinating with multiple law enforcement agencies * Preservation of Evidence * Legal Blood Alcohol Level collection * Serves as case manager and arranges safe transportation and disposition of pts returning to SNF, ALF or other safe area of disposition. * Arranges emergent hospital-hospital transfers independently, either by ground or flight, and assures that all pertinent health records are sent with patient. * Serves as a resources for complex discharge planning. * Supervises EMT, Paramedic and nursing students in accordance with NCH and School agreement. * Responds to Codes and visitor injury/illness on first floor of each campus * Back up to CRN if needed for in house codes * Takes a patient assignment to facilitate flow EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS * BSN preferred and will meet timeline to be obtained BSN as stipulated by nursing administration. * Must obtain CEN, TCRN, or CPEN within six months of start in position. * FL RN licensure required. * Basic Life Support (BLS Provider), ACLS, and PALS certifications with American Heart Assoc. required. * Minimum of 2 years of experience in Emergency Department nursing required. * Supervisor/ leadership experience strongly preferred.
