Summary:

Provides professional care and assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. Provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process in collaboration with other health care team members.

Required: State of CT RN license; ACLS and BLS certification.

Current Endoscopy, ED or Critical Care experience including IV insertion skills. Preferred: GI experience. Call required. Floats between Gastroenterology DMAC and Danbury Hospital Gastroenterology.

Hours: 40 control hours.

Shift: variable hours to support the unit on days and evenings.

Responsibilities:

1.Performs assessments in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological & cognitive status.
2.Formulates a goal directed plan of care which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis & patient outcomes.
3.Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner.
4.Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available resources.
5.Evaluates effectiveness of care given and patient progression toward outcomes.
6.Identifies patient's/significant other's learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet them.
7.Coordinates interdisciplinary functions.
8.Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
9.Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary: Provides assistance with patient care activities and other unit tasks under the general supervision of licensed professional staff and as directed by the manager. Prepares all equipment and supplies used for endoscopy procedures. Responsibilities: 1. Demonstrates the ability to provide physical care to assigned patients and the ability to perform technical skills such as point of care (POC) testing. 2. Implements nursing orders promptly and adequately with an understanding of the purpose of each. 3. Follows policy and procedure for assigned patient care activities, including unit specific equipment and standards. 4. Communicates all patient and visitor information and observations to the appropriate person. 5. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. 6. Enters all data into the computer system as applicable. 7. Uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients and significant others. 8. Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and a clean, well stocked work area. Assists with maintaining unit equipment. 9. Demonstrates the ability to work as a Safety Companion, providing a safe environment to specific patients whose physical, mental or behavioral status puts them at risk of harming self or others. Requires increased visual or arms length one-to-one care. 10. Attends staff meetings. Reads/signs 100% of meeting minutes. 11. Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for the endoscopy patient. 12. Prepares all equipment and supplies used for endoscopy procedures. Anticipates the needs of the Gastroenterologist in order to expedite the procedure. 13. Demonstrates proper care in cleaning and handling of equipment such as scopes. Participates in providing in-servicing to other staff relative to the role as scope re-processor. 14. Develops and improves skills in the organization of work and materials to support room turnover and patient care. 15. Identifies emergency situations and uses judgment in instituting established procedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner. 16. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position. 17. Performs other duties as assigned. Other information: Required: Maintain competency for Basic Life Support (BLS). Minimum Experience: Patient Care Technician 1: zero to six months. Patient Care Technican 2: One year experience. For internal employees, current annual review rating of 3 or better.
