Overview:

Responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for the patient undergoing procedures in the Endoscopy unit in accordance with the plan of care, established hospital and departmental policies, procedures and standards of care. Communicates findings as indicated to appropriate persons and documents same in the patient's medical record.

Responsible for managing/overseeing the care and services provided by ancillary and other professional personnel. Responsible for managing supplies and other equipment within the unit. Develops and maintains a collaborative and collegial relationship with physicians and interdepartmental personnel as they relate to the care of the postoperative patient.

Participates in marketing of endoscopy unit services to the medical staff. Maintains competent endoscopy procedure, moderate sedation, and recovery skill level to ensure provision of safe quality patient care. The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of Mercy are followed.

Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers; plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with age specific needs, plans and provides professional nursing care for patients in accordance with any identified cultural diversity needs (such as religions, lifestyles, beliefs, physical capabilities, and cultures); plans and provides professional nursing care for patients by assuring appropriate and effective pain management; assess, report, and assist any patients that present with evidence of abuse and/or neglect; and supports the mission of Mercy. Co-workers are expected to abide by Mercy safety and infection control policies to maintain a safe environment for patients and co-workers.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school

Licensure: RN Licensure in the State of Arkansas

Experience: One year Endoscopy or Medical-Surgical experience. Successful completion of medication administration math competency test

Certifications: ACLS, BLS

Overview: The Registered Nurse is responsible for using the Nursing Process to meet the needs of patients according to the professional standards of nursing care. The RN assures that the philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Mercy Fort Smith are followed. NOTE: Competent to provide nursing services to the age of the specific population of assigned areas. See Age Appropriate Care for Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric Patients policy. Current CPR Certification is a required element to maintain the job position. Qualifications: * Education: Graduation from an approved school of nursing. Licensure: Current licensure by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Experience: Entry level. Certifications: CPR Other: To ensure patient safety it is mandatory that all licensed co-workers who provide direct patient care pass a medication and math competency test before assuming medication administration responsibilities. This exam will cover knowledge of the actions and side effects of commonly used drugs along with math regarding correct dosages and IV problems. The passing grade on this exam is 90% and it may be repeated one time.
