Primary Function: Responsible for providing nursing care for Emergency Department patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities * Assist with the care and assessment of patients in the Emergency Department. * Provide nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department using proper technique and established policies, procedures and safety precautions. * Administer oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous and related medications according to established policies and procedures. * . Document in the medical record according to established policies and procedures. * Monitors IV infusions on assigned patients including observing and regulating the flow rate and changing dressings on IVs as required and observing insertion site. Remove venous needles or catheters without skin sutures. * Educate patients/family members on patients condition, treatment, discharge/transfer planning and follow-up care and/or examinations as needed. Seek feedback from patients/family members to evaluate understanding and document. * Observe assigned patients and report any patient care issues, changes in patient condition or unexpected occurrences to RN. * Assist physicians and patients during examinations procedures and/or diagnostic tests as required. * Maintain a safe comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients in accordance with hospital standards. * Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest fire disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established practices. * Assume responsibility for own professional development setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources such as attending seminars in-services and/or reading journals. * Performs all other related duties as assigned. Job Qualifications and Requirements * Vocational/technical training in Nursing and a minimum of one years job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI State Licensure is also required.
