RN Emergency, Rock Island Campus, .975 FTE, 7:30p-8a, fulltime benefit eligible.

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, contributes professional nursing knowledge and skills in the provision and management of care to patients and their families. Maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at UnityPoint Health with in the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other care givers.


Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.

  • Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team.

  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care.

  • Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.

  • Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area.

  • Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care.

  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.

Development & Patient Education

  • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.

  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.

  • Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.

  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Diploma from an RN program.

BSN degree

Prefer one (1) year of hospital clinical experience or demonstrated clinical efficiency.

Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in primary state. Must apply within 90 days for licensure in secondary state.

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

ACLS, PALS OR ENPC, TNCC or TNS, CPR, and Sedation only for those designated nurses giving sedation required within one year.

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Multicultural sensitivity.

Microsoft Office basic computer skills.

Customer/patient focused.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities.

Level 3; Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

This position is based in Rock Island and travels to all four UnityPoint Health Trinity campuses and works a variable first shift schedule defined by workflow. Fulltime benefit eligible. Responsibilities * Facilitates the accuracy and maintenance of Med Surg and specialty inventories in Lawson * Forecast end users needs, and reviews inventory to assure acceptable fill rate. Tracks modified inventory levels, calculate fill rates, and documents measured changes. * Oversees storage location and inventory turns. * Expedites processing of supply problems by working w/ patient care areas, corporate supply chain staff and vendor reps. * Research stockouts/ par level adjustments/ open PO's, and oversees rotation of product for movement of goods and change in usage, backorders, discontinued products. * Oversees par cart management and standardization. * Oversees specialty bin and cart management, i.e .code carts, PIC, Intubation, Isolation, EOP, Neuro * Participates in product conversions and coordinates product moves, i.e. IV pump supply * Reviews variance reports of inventories, researches/ backtracks inventory discrepancies, reconciles discrepancies, and recommends process improvement to reduce discrepancies and correct inventory conditions. * Reviews slow moving items for inventory reduction opportunities and initiates communication for follow up with the Product Line Coordinator. * Coordinates the annual physical inventories for the Med Surg inventories. (If needed) * Recommend cycle count patterns and methodologies. * Computes inventory record accuracy as needed. * Communicates changes in usage with distributor/ vendor. * Contacts appropriate IT personnel or vendor for assistance/ resolution of computer issues related to inventory management. * Works with MMIS to review process flow/ improvement of supply utilization, if needed * Prepares reports to evaluate usage, and develops recommendations, implements solutions, and evaluates processes to achieve performance metrics. * Assists with oversight of patient charge processing. * Assists with training new departmental employees. * Participate in the development, review and revision of department operational procedures. * Participate in and support the performance improvement needs of the department and organization (i.e. PI projects, etc.) * Participate in departmental and organizational meetings as assigned. * Assist the department in other areas as assigned (i.e physical inventory, vacation coverage, emergency coverage, etc.). Qualifications Education: Minimum high school graduate with three years of healthcare and materials management experience. Inventory Control experience required. Business training preferred. Two years post high school degree preferred. Knowledge/Abilities/Skills: Must have the analytical ability to effectively manage supplies. Must have clinical knowledge of the area of specialty with supply. Must be proficient in MS Office and possess a high level of computer understanding, knowledge of current MMIS systems.
